The Man Makes Cookies

Mr. FixIt’s Famous Peanut Butter Blossoms! I have no idea how he makes them…it’s magic!
I don’t particularly care for the big box store. I also don’t particularly care for the shopping online opportunity that offers me cheaper prices and convenience. I don’t care for their business practices. I don’t care for inferior products made in Chinese sweatshops. But…I’m now officially a senior citizen living in the boonies on a fixed income. Gone are the days of just buying whatever my little heart desires.
Call it maturity. Call it enlightenment. Call it lack of choices. Whatever it is…it is what it is and I won’t make myself feel bad for doing what I have to do to keep every penny I can and make it work for me. That being said, I made the trip to town to a vastly overpacked big box store to get some things.
I was fully prepared to buy some cheap holiday fabric and make a few drawstring gift bags, but once I priced the fabric and figured in my time, I was less inclined to think that was the cheaper route. I went back into the “Sparkle Department” and found some large drawstring bags that were really cute and just a little over $2 each. That worked for me and I bought what I needed.
Mr. FixIt asked me on my way out the door to bring home some creamy peanut butter. This is a fun feud we have every year. I make my peanut butter cookies with super chunky peanut butter. It adds interest by way of texture. I like chunky. He likes smooth. I have a monstrous jar of chunky peanut butter in the pantry, but it just will not do for Mr. FixIt’s Famous Peanut Butter Blossoms.
I ragged him about this incessantly the last few years. I wouldn’t eat his cookies. Because…I like chunky! It became a matter of principle. I made my own with the chunky and that is just the way it was. No problem. Then….
I tasted his cookies.
Darn it.
They were freaking AWESOME!
Power struggles. We all do them in relationships…to one extent or another. I’ll never forget the first time I tasted his cookies and had to do the whole mea culpa thing. And you know what he said? Nothing. He just smiled and gave me a big ol’ hug. He’s the best guy in the world for me. He gives me all the rope in the world I need to hang myself, then wraps me up in his big bear hugs and loves me anyway.
So, when he asked for the jar of creamy peanut butter yesterday, I turned to him with my brightest smile. And, with a twinkle in my eye, I said…”You’re such a harda$$!” And we laughed and laughed.
He’ll be baking cookies today!
