An Audience of Two

I follow BMack Writes. She sends out these short videos with the conviction she wakes up with.

In a recent video, she talks about healing your hurt. She talked about trying for 20-some years to fit in with a certain group only to discover she was seeking the wrong audience. I think we can all confidently say we’ve done the same thing at some point, right?

I’ve written here about seek to have an audience of one because the only person whose approval you should seek is that of God. But, BMack made me think. I also need to seek that approval of self from MYSELF, too. I don’t need earthly approval and if I am keeping on the straight and narrow, I should also be gaining my own approval.

Self-confidence was never my strong suit. I was a chameleon…becoming who I felt my “audience” wanted me to be. I can’t tell you how many dead ends that led me down.

Honestly, it wasn’t till I became a widow that I was stripped bare of that need to be something I’m not. Being alone in the wilderness and backroads of Colorado for three months changed me. It was only me and God. When I came out, I felt I had been forged by a new fire.

This new, stripped down version of myself was the only way I could move forward and navigate a new, stripped down version of life. This is the first earthly relationship I have ever been in where I could just be…ME. It’s been such a relief and doesn’t take half as much energy as people pleasing did.

What you see is what you get!

We didn’t have a single appointment yesterday so we had a “day off!” What a treat! Today we’re heading back to town but I’m meeting friends for lunch and Mr. FixIt is getting a haircut. The weather is gorgeous right now…warm days and cool nights! We really need to go camping before the leaves fall.

Till tomorrow, dear ones…

Ginny
