I remember distinctly the day I realized I had forgotten how to play. I was a young mom, working to support my family while Hubby #2 was in medical school. He was either on call, asleep, or studying. I was doing my best to keep an active grade schooler occupied and quiet. The days and weeks and years all looked the same and I was tired. We’ve all been there…that dreaded hour when you begin asking yourself…”Is this all there is?”
Once life eased up a bit and there was a little more time and expendable income, I learned to ski. I had a bike. I hiked. I camped a little. But, I never really played with that happy-go-lucky abandon like I did when I was a kid…until this last summer. This summer was magical and I want to hang onto that feeling forever!
We are never too old to play outside. When was the last time you ate cotton candy on a Ferris wheel? Rode a bike? Kicked and pulled on a swing till your feet touched the sky? Went skinny dipping? Howled at the moon? Go outside and play this weekend! Forget your age…it’s just the number of times the earth has rotated around the sun since you graced us with your presence. The warmth of summer is waning. There’s a nip in the air in the mornings. The apples will be as crisp and crunchy as the leaves on the sidewalks soon. Don’t miss out on this really cool thing called LIFE!
Go outside and play!

“They found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to live in temporary shelters during the festival of the seventh month and that they should proclaim this word and spread it throughout their towns and in Jerusalem: “Go out into the hill country and bring back branches from olive and wild olive trees, and from myrtles, palms and shade trees, to make temporary shelters”—as it is written.”
Nehemiah 8:14-15
