Cabin Fever

Life was never, ever boring when Mr. Virgo was around. He had the most amazing stories and we always had something to talk about. He’d start off a story and ask if he’d told me that one or not. I always answered, “I don’t know, babe. But tell it to me again!” I could listen to his stories over and over and over.

As I was gazing out at the falling snow the last couple of days, I was feeling cooped up. Cabin fever is setting in…big time! I did go out last night to visit a friend. We cooked my famous spaghetti sauce and then watched American Idol. I got home around midnight after creeping along the icy roads. School is closed again today. It gives me time to think about Mr. Virgo’s stories.

He worked at Disney for a few years. He worked in Five Star Hotels all around the world. He served dignitaries and celebrities. He served in Vietnam. His stories were funny and poignant and sometimes terrifying. I’m so grateful he shared all his stories with me. They comfort me when I have cabin fever. And they bring him closer to my heart. I look to God for comfort in the lonely times.

“I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land.”

Psalm 143:5-6 NIV
