I have absolutely no sense of direction. I used to. Seriously, I could drive into a town, get my bearings, and navigate anywhere. I lost that ability sometime in 1983 in the Hertz lot in the Boston airport. My ex and I were on a huge trip up and down the east coast interviewing for internships as he was about to graduate from medical school. This WV girl was trying to get her Jewish city boy to help her fulfill her lifelong dream of having a farm. We traveled to 10 major cities in 14 days. I came out of the bathroom at the car rental office and had no idea which city I was in or which way to turn to get back to the lobby. I never regained the ability to find my butt with both hands and a flashlight, let alone find my way through a big city. Thank God for GPS or I couldn’t get out of the parking lot at the mall!
Ever wish you had a GPS to help you navigate the decisions you have to make in this life? I was talking to a friend recently and was saying I could not believe some of the stuff I did in the first year after losing Mr. Virgo. Honestly, even my ex-husband called and said, “What the hell are you DOING?” Well, in fairness, he didn’t use those exact words. But the gist was the same. I ask God all the time to hop in the driver’s seat, then I keep grabbing the wheel and telling him “No, it’s THIS way!!!”
Wouldn’t it be nice if God gave us audible directions in that Australian dude’s voice?
“Ginny, you need to keep your mouth shut in this situation.”
“Ginny, you need to avoid this person at all costs!”
“Ginny, what in MY NAME were you thinking??? For crying out loud…you’re killing me here!”
Instead, He whispers.
“Don’t.”
“Don’t what?”
“Just, don’t!”
“Ok, how about this?”
“Nope, not that.”
“C’mon…a little direction, please.”
“Do this.”
“What??? No way!!! I am NOT doing that.”
“Do this.”
“Nope! You can’t make me!”
“DO THIS NOW!!!!”
“Ok, ok…jeesh! You don’t have to use all caps! I’ll do it already!”
This is the nature of many of my talks with God. I’ll just keep reading His instruction manual and keep listening.
“Recalculating route!”
