One of my favorite things to do is camp with one of my girl camping groups. I didn’t get to camp at all this summer so this weekend I came to a state park in Ohio to meet up with the Girl Campers. Janine Pettit does a podcast about camping like a girl and her listeners started clamoring for opportunities to get together. I got to visit with Janine last weekend at Country Living Fair. When I heard the Girl Campers were meeting this close to me, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. I didn’t bring TOW-Wanda because it takes two people to get her out of where she’s parked. So, I took this opportunity to camp in my tent. If you ever want to have a great time, camping with a bunch of women is such a hoot!
Speaking of hoots, we went on a hike in the woods with a naturalist last night searching for owls. We heard one far off and that was it. We did see a flying squirrel. That was pretty cool. I haven’t seen one since I was a little girl.
I love the state parks back east. The campgrounds are almost always jam packed with trees. They are so beautiful with their nature trails and stunning vistas. I tucked my tent back along the pines. The trailers are all under oak trees and man, the acorns are fat this year. Another sign of a hard winter coming, I’m afraid. These big acorns are dropping this time of year and they sting when they hit you and make a lot of noise when they hit the metal roof on a trailer. I’d just as soon not be startled every five minutes all night long.
Good news for me…I get to stay at the farm for at least another couple of months. I hope my aunt is at peace with these decisions. I can’t imagine what it will be like when my independence is taken away. I doubt I’ll take it well. My heart is with her.

“Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.””
