Whenever we head out on a long road trip, I am always careful to ask God for travel mercies and you all are always so good about praying for us, too. I wanted to let you know how well those prayers worked.
We left home about 9:15 yesterday morning and took the cat to the Kitty Hilton. We stopped for a breakfast sandwich and complained that the line was so long. But, we stuck it out, got our meal, and I almost pulled out of the parking lot to eat on the road. Instead, I thought better of it and we pulled into a parking space to enjoy breakfast.
We got on the road just a couple of minutes before 10:00 and headed south on the interstate. We came around a turn and I could see something white lying over on the tree line. I immediately slowed down. Two cars had just pulled over and put their flashers on. There was a man walking near what we found was a semi tractor trailer laying on its side. The trailer was ripped open and a white “mist” was rising from the opening. I looked back at the road and saw dirt and grass from the median where the truck dragged it across both lanes.
There were NO tire tracks through the dirt!
That meant, the truck had literally crossed our path minutes before we came through there. It turns out, the load in the trailer was some sort of hazardous substance that can cause difficulties breathing if exposed to it. If we hadn’t waited in the line and taken a few moments to eat before driving…it could have been disastrous. I keep a cross hanging from the rear view mirror of my truck. I immediately reached up, grabbed that cross, and thanked God for keep us all safe.
There are so many petty annoyances we go through every day and we may grouse and grump about them incessantly. But, it’s very important to remember…sometimes that delay was to keep you from being hurt….or from hurting someone else. A little gratitude goes a long way…even when things aren’t working out just as you planned!
