I got up before my uncle yesterday and had the biscuits ready to go in the oven by the time he stuck his head into the kitchen. When they came out, I fried him up a couple eggs sunny side up and he was one happy camper, for sure!
“The Cady”…antique carpet stretcher
We had so much fun visiting. He took me out in the building that he has packed FULL of “stuff” and we rummaged around. We found a crock that he gave me. He offered me a propeller off a submarine, but I declined. lol And he gave me a cast iron corn bread pan…the round kind with the divided sections. I need to get it cleaned up and seasoned. Then I can perfect my crispy cornbread baking a la Miss Brenda Gantt! It’s just about time to cook up some soup beans, I think!
I went to visit my cousin Tammy on my way home and dropped off some half runners and a jar of smoked pulled pork. Our visits are never long enough…and they are few and far between. But we had time to sit a spell and have a cup of coffee before I had to hit the road. I stopped at the German Valley Overlook on the far side of North Mountain. I love stopping there for photos because every single time, the view is different. The trees are lovely, but they haven’t made a big change in that valley yet. Still, it was lovely.
It was dark before I could get home and it was raining and becoming difficult to see clearly. So, I elected to stop at the farm to spend the night. It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed out here. It was raining gently when I climbed in bed. Oh….how I love the sound of rain on that tin roof.
