Traveling on a cross-country road trip, you must be flexible whenever possible. Yesterday’s forecast had severe thunderstorm warnings off and on all day with winds predicted to top 50mph. I don’t know if you have ever driven in winds like that or not, but it is ill-advised to do so while towing a camper. I figured if I was going to be overtaken by severe storms, I would just as soon be in a campground with a bunch of girls I know so I stayed put another night. Today is another day. As it turns out, I would have driven right through those bad storms as they were right along the way I would have been traveling so it’s a good thing I stayed where I was.
Yesterday was a lovely, lazy day filled with naps and reading, conversation and laughter, and plenty of good food. Too much good food. I did have to move my camper…twice. I had only reserved a site for one night and it was booked for last night. I moved and set up at another site but didn’t think to go online and reserve it. I just filled out the reservation form. After I got everything set up, I took a nap then got a call from the park employees telling me the site I was in had just gotten booked. So, off I went again. Unfortunately, this one wasn’t long enough to stay hooked up so I had to disconnect. That’s ok…I’m a pro at hooking up and unhooking this trailer now. It’s no big deal.
The purpose of stopping here to camp just a few hours from the farm was to surprise the head Girl Camper, Janine Pettit, and her good friend, Mary Brennan Morey, as they begin a four week tour of several national parks, including Yellowstone and Glacier. If you haven’t checked out the Girl Camper Facebook page or the Girl Camper podcast series, you really should. Not only are they informative, but they are just plain fun! I filmed Janine yesterday doing her F-150 Fitness Routine that she learned from MizzFitness herself, Bianca Jade. Janine is going to stay fit on the road by doing this routine every day as she explores the highways and byways of America.
There’s nothing like spending time with other women who are camping enthusiasts. Sharing knowledge, stories, and camaraderie is such a bonding experience and we forge life-long friendships over the campfire. I never would have dreamed how important my girlfriends would turn out to be at this stage of my life. ❤️
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.”
John 15:12-14 NIV
Glacier is the most beautiful place we ever went to. Hoping to get back one day. It won’t be the same without my better half, but we put one foot in front of the other and breathe. It is soooo good to have the memories.
❤️
Good stuff! Thanks! Gini from Georgia. Have fun!!!!!????

Yikes, I didn’t realize you had to move twice! You hitched up very quickly though, you are a pro;) What beautiful pictures you got….;) I was so happy I got to see you before you left!
Hey, I am a regular reader of your blog. I find it very interesting & useful. I value your opinion and want to hear your feedback. I’m planning on going on a camping trip with my family and am looking for a good camping axe or hatchet to assist me to split the firewood for the campfire. I have been looking at some reviews and I am still unsure about what one to purchase. I was reading this review https://www.toolazine.com/the-best-axes-hatchets-for-camping-backpacking-hiking-survival-buying-guide/ and thinking to buy the hatchet that he suggests but am not 100 confident. maybe I can use the cheaper option. What do you think? Is it really better to have a more costly one if I am only going camping a few times per year? Thank you so much for your opinion and thanks for the awesome posts that you share.
Well, I have never been asked this question. To be honest, I don’t carry an ax or a hatchet because I use a propane fire ring. I love a campfire till it starts smoking and then it seriously doesn’t matter where I sit…the smoke blows right at me. I hate that. So, I skip the whole chopping wood scenario completely. Maybe some the other readers can help! ❤️
