The View From my “Office”
I had my followup appointment with my endocrine surgeon yesterday. Almost all of my numbers have settled down into the normal range except one and it’s only mildly elevated. Overall, I’d say I’m about 80% better than I was before the surgeries and I will take that as a hug win! I suppose what symptoms I do have can be easily attributed to age related changes and there’s nothing anyone can do about that except make healthier lifestyle choices, i.e. eat clean and green and exercise more. I don’t have to see him for six months and then I’ll be discharged barring any unforeseen consequences. Yay!
I started doing some deep cleaning before Little arrives in just over a week. Then we went out and cleaned the pool. It was a cool and refreshing dip on a hot, muggy day. We celebrated the occasion with a trip to the little country store for a scoop of Black Cherry ice cream to enjoy down by the river.
The twins hang out in our field every day now. I rarely see mama so I know they are on their own. I saw a rabbit for the first time this year. I’ve seen evidence the rabbits are being hunted here…probably by the myriad hawks we have hanging around. Several times I’ve walked around the end of the house only to startle the young Red Shouldered Hawk that has been sitting on the satellite dish and telephone lines.
When I walked in from the camper yesterday morning, there was a small snake skin by the front door. Mr. FixIt was weed eating on Monday and said he saw one go under a big rock right there. I couldn’t find it then, but it left the evidence behind for all to see. Mr. FixIt isn’t a snake guy, so I’m the one who has to deal with those kinds of critters. Honestly, they’ve never really bothered me. But, then again…I’ve never seen a live poisonous snake either, so I’m not sure how I would react in that case.
A Long Exposure Shot Caught the Lightning Bugs
I’ve been thinking about activities for when Little is here visiting. I definitely want to show her how to can and make jam. I need to can half runners this year because I’m almost out. We’ll bake together. I want to teach her how to make pizza from scratch. We’ll do some crafting and antiquing. That child loves a good junk shop and laws there’s enough of them around here to stay busy the entire time. Camping and swimming and bonfires and s’mores and watermelon seed-spitting contests. I can’t wait!!!
The new actuator came for the camper. Mr. FixIt has watched the videos how to replace it but I haven’t seen one yet. That’s our next big project. I have about five or six inches of one sleeve knitted on Big’s sweater. So much to do…so little time!
