Prayers in my Stitches

Land’s sake…please forgive my sloppy summer clothes, but…I have one sleeve done!

As I plug along on this sweater for Big, I send prayers up. I wrap them in the soft cotton and bamboo yarn. I pack them into the spaces of each stitch. I ask God to wrap my sweet girl in warmth…comfort…and safety. When we sent Daughter #2 out into the world, she chose to attend the local community college so her baby sister would know who she was. That was providence, as she met my wonderful son-in-law the first week of school.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, when you send your first child off to college…you send a king sized piece of your heart with them. As it turns out, having a baby when YOUR baby is almost sixteen takes your focus off the adolescent a little bit and allows them to grow up. At least, that is the way it worked for us. Now, my baby is sending HER baby off to college and my heart is with her as she hurtles toward this new passage in her life. They still have Little at home for another three years, though. That will keep them hopping!

I camped in the Big Birdhouse on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Yesterday morning I was awakened to the lusty cries of the young red-shouldered hawk…this time sitting on the peak of the a-frame roof of the camper. Trust me…having a hawk resting five feet above your head and waking you from a dead sleep will get you out of bed in a hurry! I could hear it fussing around up there. I’m hoping it was having a snack of a mouse or something and not a piece of the camper!

Mr. FixIt went into town yesterday to help his buddy do some odd jobs around his house. He remarked that the things they could easily do ten years ago gave them fits. It took them at least three times longer to get the job done. I’m finding that more and more. For the first time in my life, I sit down to knit and catch myself drifting off…my hands in my lap, my chin on my chest. What is this? This is new. I’m not ready for this…I have too much “going” to do!

We need to change the part on the camper this weekend…the part that lifts and lowers the top. I’m trying to figure out how to do it safely. It’s supposed to rain today. Sunday and Monday will be clear so we will need to mow here at the house and out at the farm. We need to get defoamer for the pool and do some housework. And, I need to finish the other sleeve on the sweater. I don’t know if I’ll get it finished before we leave the kids in Virginia or not. We shall see.

It was lovely to have a day to knit in the peace and quiet. I rarely turn the TV on when Mr. FixIt isn’t home. But yesterday I decided to watch Appalachian cooking videos. One gal was making Fried Corn and that looked pretty yummy. Little loves West Virginia and loves to cook with me so I know we’ll have a big time with that! Silver Queen corn should be coming in soon! I picked the last of the blueberries yesterday. There wasn’t much more than enough to top a couple bowls of cereal, but it’s a taste!

What kind of fun things do you have planned for the weekend?
