Spelling Counts!

I can’t tell you how many words I’ve written on this blog over the nearly ten years since I started. Millions, I would hazard to guess. I’ve made my fair share of grammatical as well as spelling errors and thankfully, I have wonderful friends who send me private messages to let me know of an error. That’s because they know errors make me crazy.

I have been known to stop reading a book if I find too many spelling errors. It’s almost like it should be impossible to make mistakes with all the editing software out there. I do know it’s those spell corrector programs that often throw you under the bus. Poor spelling just bugs me…especially if it’s something that really should have been seen by more than one pair of eyes.

For instance…how many times have you seen an ad in the paper for a “dinning room table”? Seriously? It’s dining! And don’t get me started on there, their, they’re. I was walking through the Halloween display at a big box store yesterday and saw this “Pumpkin Spece Love” sign. I mean..am I missing something? Is there something called “spece” that I am unaware of? I know, I know…people who live in glass houses…

All that aside, the key point here is…I was out. Shopping. By myself. I cannot remember the last time I took myself on a shopping excursion. But, my first stop was at the DMV to get the tags on the new camper we just bought. It was a good thing I was called up to the handicapped window and was sitting down when he gave me the total. Sticker shock! It always is. So, after such an experience, I needed a little retail therapy.

Well, not really. It was more browsing than buying, but I did pick up a few things. I’ll show you pictures later in the week while we are camping so you can see how cute they are. The other day, Mr. FixIt stopped at Aldi on his way home and went down the “Aisle of Shame.” It’s a great source of pride for me to know I’ve turned him on to that particular erotic zone. He called me on FaceTime to show me a handheld shower head exactly like what I’ve been looking for and it was ON SALE. I hooked it up in the camper yesterday afternoon. I had to jerry rig it a little bit. I kept the hose from the old one and just changed out the shower head and it works great.

Today, we need to get up in the wheel wells of the camper and caulk any place that looks like water could leak through. Then we need to restock it with warmer clothes and some comfort foods. Two of the nights we’ll be camping is supposed to get down in the 30’s! That’s going to be pretty darned chilly! This electric blanket will keep us comfy cozy, but we’re going to need to wear jackets and lap blankets when we sit around the propane fireplace. We may actually toast marshmallows this time…and have hot cocoa!

I got a good shot of the hilltop across the road just before dusk yesterday. It was a gorgeous day, but as soon as that sun went behind the far hill, it cooled off fast. There’s no doubt it is fall. And before we know it, the snow will fly. So let’s get out there and have adventures before it’s too late, shall we???

“He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.”

Psalm 104:19 ESV
