Travel Days are Long Days

First, there’s the getting up and going issue…something neither of us are necessarily good at. Then there’s the packing up the camper, tucking everything away, and hitching up. There’s always a stop at the Golden Arches for some iced tea and breakfast sandwiches. This time there was a prescription to pick up at Wally World. And finally, a stop at a rest area on the way where we dump our tanks and fill up with fresh water.

I don’t normally travel with a full fresh water tank because it just adds extra weight and that takes more gas to tow. I usually travel with no more than 1/3 tank…just enough to flush the toilet along the way. But, this campground doesn’t have a place where you can fill up your tank and, since we’re going to be here for four days, I need all the water I can get to wash dishes, flush the toilet, and take the briefest of showers during our stay. There isn’t a bath house here…just a solar shower and that’s not happening in October!

It’s only 121 miles to the campground from our house, but there’s always traffic and potty breaks. Then, we stop at the store closest to the campground and pickup food for our stay. We left at 11:30 and got here at 5:30. We set up the screen tent and the outdoor kitchen and the electric fireplace and sat out there till after dark.

This is the first time we’ve used the screen room and it worked great. It kept the bugs off us and our food. We leaned the chairs forward on the small table we use and hopefully they won’t gather dew too terribly. Once the dishes were done and things put away, we were both pooped. As I write this, Mr. FixIt is watching a movie on the portable DVD player I so wisely bought for him during one particular camping trip when it was cold and rainy. It’s saved the day on more than one occasion.

My sweetie is a TV watcher. I am not. So, the addition of headphones was a BIG bonus! I did bring a couple of movies I wouldn’t mind watching, but I could certainly live with out them. I brought enough knitting projects to keep me busy for a month!

I think I may have heard an owl way off in the distance at dusk last night, but I wouldn’t swear to it. Hopefully they haven’t all been scared away by the intense reclamation work that went on here at the park during the pandemic. We’ll just have to listen carefully…and maybe I can call them in with the app since they aren’t on the nest at this time of year.

I’m looking forward to visiting with friends today and honestly…not doing a darned thing!
