Hokey Smokes…the wind was crazy Friday night. It was howling when I was writing yesterday’s post and continued long into the night. Our power stayed on, but it did brown out several times. It is not at all unusual to lose power out here in the boonies when a storm blows in, but we were lucky this time.
I kept hearing things banging and crashing out there and I fully expected to see detritus everywhere yesterday morning, but we couldn’t find a thing out of place. There were trees and power lines down all around the region and thousands were without power. Then, when morning came, the sun broke through the clouds revealing an azure sky. It was glorious.
I fixed a good breakfast and we were settled in for a day like any other this time of year. But my eye was repeatedly drawn to the cool, crisp sunshine and I couldn’t stand it anymore. I had to get out! I asked Mr. FixIt if he’d like to go for a drive. We went to Parkersburg and walked in the park. Then a quick trip to Sam’s. Not for anything specific…just to walk around and look. Then we stopped for sandwiches at Popeye’s and watched the sunset while we ate.
Spring is such a hopeful time of year. The world is waking up and so are we. I was thinking about spring out at the farm. When I came off the road to care for the farm in 2016, I settled in to live the farm life I’d always dreamt of. The spring of 2017 had me combing the hills and hollers documenting every little wildflower that popped its head up from a long winter’s slumber.
Each shoot represented hope and joy. I went out every morning to document their progress, marveling at how quickly they grew once the warm sunshine coaxed them from the rich woodland soil of West Virginia. This glorious display is accompanied by a symphony of birdsong. When you are blessed enough to have this unsure a sky so blue it hurts your eyes? Priceless!
I noticed a few small ground cover plants waking up here and there at Marshmallow Ranch. I must get out to the farm soon to catch the wildflowers because it’s truly magical! In the meantime, let’s share our favorite flower shots of the weekend. Mine is a simple pic of a bunch of daffodils at the park in our class flower bed…shot against that incredibly blue sky. What do you have to share?
