Grilled Portobello Mushroom Sandwich
This was one of those days where I had a clear goal in mind, but in order to achieve it there were several things that needed doing first. The biggest tie up was chatting with Verizon. Since our internet service is so dicey out here, I depend on the cell service to access the internet a lot of the time. They told me there are notes on our area and they are “working on the problem” but they couldn’t give a time line or explain exactly what the problem is. “But rest assured, we are working on it.” Right. I’ve lived here for five years. It used to be better before the pandemic. Then it just got crappy and it hasn’t improved a bit.
They asked me to update my phone…she would be happy to wait on the line. Just tell her when it’s finished. I laughed. “Ok. But, you do know this is why I’m contacting you, right? Sometimes an update can take four or five hours.” “Oh.” Yeah…oh. I dutifully set the update to download and it only took 45 minutes! Awesome! She was long gone by that time, of course. But she said just to resume the chat and someone would pick up.
Sure enough…Alex came onboard. He wondered if I would make a phone call to see if the update made a difference. I complied. It did not. The reception still cut in and out. He asked me to hold which I happily did as I was also working on the computer. He finally came back and told me he was sending a special kind of order that signaled they couldn’t help me through troubleshooting and “someone will be calling soon.” I’m not holding my breath, Alex…but your sure were kind about the whole thing.
One of my long time Colorado besties contacted me last week and asked if I was still doing punch needle embroidery. I sold some supplies for it in my needlework shop a million years ago, and Barbara got into it big time. She got me excited about it in 2015. I, in my true Gemini fashion, went out and bought ALL the things. Needles, threads, fabric, frames…the works. And…it is still in the bag I brought them home in. I’ve moved twice since then! I have good intentions, y’all. I really do. But there are SO many things!
Barbara’s beautiful punch needle embroidery. The piece on the left is mounted on wood from a leaf of her grandmother’s dining room table that was beyond repair. Her brother cut the shape for her.
I informed Barbara I still had all the things and they were pristine since I hadn’t done a thing with them. It turns out, these needles are harder and harder to find and she has daughters-in-love that want to learn so she offered to buy them from me. Yes!!! Now they can go to someone who will used them and I won’t feel so guilty that I’ve wasted money on something that’s just sitting in the back room. Win-Win!!!
Between Verizon and my friend Barbara, I spent hours on the phone and didn’t make much headway with the trip planning. Mr. FixIt popped his head in the office to tell me he was running to town to get gas for the mower. I asked if I could come along because I needed a break. The day was beautiful. It didn’t get hot, so when we got home, I decided to grill our supper. I had two large portobello mushrooms and stopped for corn and a tomato on our way home. I grilled the mushrooms with a marinade made of butter, lemon infused olive oil, bread dipping spice blend, and Tabitha Brown’s Sunshine Seasoning. Oh, it tasted SO good!!! I did eat it in a sandwich which was the first bread I’ve had in weeks. I was really looking forward to it, but the bread tasted awful to me. Bland and gummy. I don’t miss it one bit. The corn is getting better and better as the year progresses.
Today is another appointment in town and you know what that means…it’ll turn into an all day ordeal. At least the weather is supposed to be comfortable. I think we’ll go shopping and get Mr. FixIt something nice for the wedding. I’m picturing a nice sports coat in a light tan color with a white shirt and his grey dress pants. He cleans up good!

I created these boots with Little and Daughter #2 in mind. They are cheerful and something fun to brighten up the dreariest of days!
