The third day always seems to be the hardest when I/we make this cross country trek and yesterday was no different. OMGosh! First of all, we had barely gotten on the road when another big storm started coming at us, so we pulled into another Love’s Truck Stop and parked between two semis. It didn’t look like it was going to be as severe as the one on Thursday, which turned out to be a derecho. So, instead of waiting in the truck, we climbed in the camper and went back to sleep!
When the worst was past, we got back on the road and drove through a gentle rain. We hadn’t gone twenty miles when the traffic came to a complete stop. You could look ahead on Waze and see that traffic was backed up for 6.5 miles so we knew it was something serious. Huge wreckers and police cars went up the emergency lane to our right. After about an hour, we started moving forward and were directed off the interstate on a six mile detour. Before long, we were back on the highway and toodled right along to our next campground.
Yesterday was our longest driving day. A projected drive of just under five hours turned into twelve and Miss Ginny wasn’t necessarily her usually happy, perky self when we got to the campground. But, we got here safely and that’s all that matters. The park itself is darling. It must be run by the city. It’s small and clean. Each site has water and electric and is paved. The sites are generously spaced. The only negative I could make is it was Friday night of Independence Day Weekend and it sounded like WWII out there!
I’m still managing to stay on my Noom program while we travel which is no small feat. We hit the hay early and today isn’t supposed to be nearly as long or as far. See you tomorrow!
