I’m so glad it’s the weekend and we got through this first week back. Remedial mowing was fun. At least it wasn’t blistering hot like it had been. Then there were two days with trips to town…both for appointments for Mr. FixIt. He’s suffered with back pain for years and I think we’re onto something here with the treatment plan. It’s helped one problem, but uncovered another because the pain was masking it. Now that we’ve uncovered what’s going on, we have a plan to work with and I’m sure we’ll having him back to his happy self in a short while. The man NEVER complains, so when he admits he’s in pain, I pay attention.
When we were at his appointment on Thursday, they gave him his first Pneumovax injection for pneumonia. I was looking something up on phone to ask about and when I looked up, the medical assistant was putting the bandage on the injection site and it was way up on his shoulder joint. Now, you may recall, I did this for a living and you don’t go that high. You can injure the joint itself. But it was too late at that point. We had a couple of errands to run, then we went over to City Park to listen to live music.
When we were getting back in the car to go home, Mr. FixIt winced. He could hardly move his arm. I put my hand on his arm and he was sweaty and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. Mr. Virgo had left shoulder pain. Then he died. I wasn’t taking chances and I was ready to head to the ER but I went though every set of symptoms and determined it very likely was muscular. He felt fine. His arm felt like he’d been hit by a baseball bat. Neither one of us even thought of the vaccine as the culprit.
We got home and he did what he always does when he has muscular pain…he turned the heating pad up to high and put in on the sore place. Within 15 minutes, he was speaking through gritted teeth. The a light bulb went on. He looked at me and said, “You don’t suppose it’s the vaccine making my arm hurt like this, you?”
Well…duh!
I ran to the kitchen and grabbed a cold compress from the freezer, whipped off the heating pad and put the icy gel pack on his booboo. Then I got him two extra strength acetaminophen and a drink. In ten minutes it started easing up. But he only slept about an hour Thursday night. So we were both pretty whupped yesterday.
We finished up our errands and headed home. He stretched out in his Big Red Chair and I headed to my friend Rain’s yard sale. I met Rain through our dear friend Sparky who died in December of ‘22. She is a multiple time cancer survivor and an incredibly talented and kind woman. She LOVES to fish. I saw on her FB page yesterday that she had multiple tubs of fabric and quilting books for sale. Her sister is a quilter. And, Rain makes jewelry from antique silverware. Sound like anyone you might know?! I bought a lot of stuff and sat with Rain and her husband in the shade of their front porch. They live on the most beautiful piece of property. It’s a little slice of heaven out there…and so quiet.
I finally tore myself away and Rain went in to get ready to go to the county fair. She was bidding on the Grand Champion Steer and needed to get there by 5:00. I came on home and had a summer supper…a tomato and onion sandwich…and that was about the end of my day. I told Mr. FixIt I need to mow today so we can stay ahead of it, then I’m going out to the farm for a few days to work on my shop. It’s time to get back in the swing of things. We don’t have anything scheduled this week, which is fine by us.
Time to have a vacation from our vacation!

“Night pierces my bones; my gnawing pains never rest.”
Job 30:17 NIV
Same thing happened with my pneumonia shot at Dr. It was high up and it affected my range of motion for awhile. I ended up back at Dr and did a short stint of PT! All is good now, but I wonder if that’s where they’re supposed to give it? And shots never hurt but boy that I’ve did! Hopefully Mr. Fixit will be feeling better soon!
He’s much better today, thanks! ?
Same with me on the pneumonia shot. It had me up all night couldn’t move my arm. My husband wanted to take me to the Ear I was in such pain. It finally got better. I’ll never get that shot again!
I’m sorry you had a bad reaction. I’m getting mine in a few weeks. I’ll make sure she puts it in the right place! ?
