Yes…these things went together. We live in a pretty tiny town. Really tiny. I mean…we have a post office and a grocery store. A couple of gas stations and several churches. And there’s a bar not too far out of town. But we’re good people in Small Town, America.
We luxuriated in not really having to do much yesterday. It was pretty hot out. So we hung out indoors in the AC. I worked on my shop while Mr. FixIt snoozed with the TV on in the background. We didn’t do anything of any importance till the news was over and we headed over the hill to the Piggly Wiggly to get some bread and milk.
There is a good sized section in the store that features products made in West Virginia. I always have a look to see if there’s something interesting and this time they had Sourwood Honey. Oh…if you’ve never had it, see if you can find it. It has a very delicate flavor…not like the stronger honeys of the Appalachias. There is a world championship of honey called the Apimonda and this honey regularly wins. As the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective says, Sourwood Honey “is highly coveted by food connoisseurs throughout the world.”
And here it was…on the shelf in our Piggly Wiggly that serves a town of 706 souls without a stoplight!
Even though we’re going to the big town today, I picked up a few things yesterday to make another batch of that Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. I’d like to take some to our granddaughter’s workplace today. She loves hummus and I love surprising the kids with treats from time to time.
As we were leaving the store, we always stop and look at the bulletin board to see if there’s anything we don’t want to miss out on. That’s where I saw the poster for a local event…Boggin’ for Jesus. For those of you who aren’t in the know, boggin’ is short for Mud Bogging…ie running a motor vehicle of some sort through a muddy course. They have boggin’ contests and boggin’ fundraisers. Tons of people just go out boggin’ for entertainment…or a great date.
Boggin’ is puredee country…it’s as real as it gets. There may be alcohol involved. I’ve gone boggin’ before. And, while it was a hoot and a half…it’s not something I would actively pursue. But I’m sure glad they’re doing it for Jesus. It means their heart’s right. I’m not sure HOW they’re doing it for Jesus. There are Rodeos for Jesus and Bikers for Jesus. I’ve been to Cowboy Church. So maybe it’s a church service in the middle of a mud hole, I don’t know.
I think I’ll stick with the Sourwood Honey and leave the boggin’ for the younger crowd. Now I’m thinking some biscuits might be needed to go with it.
Yummmmm!

“My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste. In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short.”
Proverbs 24:13-14 NLT
