The Tote is Done

I finished the tote Wednesday night and got to use it for the first time yesterday. Mr. FixIt wanted a new pair of shoes for his birthday so I told him we should head to town, go to the mall, then our to dinner at Mary B’s. I had a few things I needed to get at Sam’s…one of which was a large bottle of vodka to make more home brewed vanilla. I was afraid we would drop the bottle carrying it into the house, so I stuck it in the new tote I crocheted and it worked great. Very sturdy and I felt like, even if we dropped it, the tote is so thick and soft, it would have cushioned the blow. So, crochet for the win! I love the idea of “using it up”…in this case, about six skeins of yarn that I wasn’t going to use for anything else.

I’m now going to keep my eyes open for yarn in garage sales and on FB Marketplace. I did have to buy two skeins of yarn yesterday to make a gift for someone special…the former Mrs. FixIt. I made a hat for her for Christmas, but the yarn I used didn’t have a lot of stretch so the hat was too tight. Now I’ll make one with this soft and stretchy yarn that will fit her. And, I’ll throw in a scarf to match.

While we were at dinner, I told Mr. FixIt that I would like to have a couple of days at The Farm. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been out there and I miss it. But now we have a winter storm heading our way this weekend, and I don’t want to get stuck out there. The bigger problem would be losing power. So, I’ll have to wait a while for my sabbatical.

I’m going to do a little cooking today. I have some bananas that are just pleading to be made into banana bread. I want to make some small loaves to freeze. Then I can deliver them to folks who may be shut in for one reason or another. I have chicken breasts defrosted to make Chicken Alfredo for supper. And, I have a pork roast to cut up in quarters. I’ll cook a quarter of it tomorrow and freeze the other three quarters for our make up Christmas dinner.

I think I’ll pull out some more yarn and start on another basket/tote. And start on the new hat and scarf. One of the gals who came to knitting group on Monday said, “You’re a really busy person, aren’t you?” Ohhhhhh, she has no idea.
