A Chilly Country Morning

Mr. FixIt loves light covers and a very warm room. I like more covers and a very cold room. I cannot sleep when it’s too hot and he can’t sleep if it’s too cold. So, most of the time, we sleep in separate rooms these days… me with the window open and he in his happy little sauna. We’ve actually found we are much happier together when we BOTH get a good night’s sleep.

I never thought I’d be “one of those couples” who sleep in separate rooms. Those were Mr. Virgo’s words when I suggested I try to get some sleep in the spare room when his snoring kept me from getting any sleep. “We aren’t going to be one of those couples who sleep in separate rooms.” I swallowed my feelings and stayed in the same bed every night till he died. I was constantly sleep deprived.

Now I know how to set healthy boundaries and if we aren’t getting adequate sleep, we sleep separately and make up for cuddle time in other ways. Everyone is different, every marriage is different, and it’s really ok to set boundaries for yourself…in a marriage especially. And you shouldn’t feel guilty for doing something that’s healthy for you at this age in particular. You cannot pour from an empty cup and if you are not resting, your cup is far from full.

The wind blew like crazy Saturday night. I finally figured out how to keep the door from rattling with the wind currents by wedging a sock in it when I closed it. I was toasty warm, but the top of my head was cold. Along about 6:30 in the morning, I heard Mr. FixIt up doing something. It turned out, his room was getting hotter because the cold air was going under my door and tripping the thermostat. Since his door was closed, his room kept getting hotter and hotter. I got up and closed my window and suggested he keep his door open to let the heat out into the hall. Voila! Problem solved!

I always gauge what to make for breakfast by Mr. FixIt’s sugar. If it’s higher, he gets proteins and very little carbs. But if it’s normal like it has been, anything is fair game. I always give him a couple choices and he wanted poached eggs and toast. I talked him into poached eggs on grits…one of my all time favorite country breakfasts. Grits count as a green food on Noom so I can eat them every day if I want to. It’s a stick-to-your-ribs comfort food that keeps you filled up for hours and it’s SO yummy!

I worked on the Class Page most of the day yesterday. FB has changed the way you handle and edit files in a group. You can no longer create a document on the page itself or edit it like I’ve always done. So I finally figured out if I create a master file in PDF form and leave it on my desk top I can edit it there and upload it to the page and remove the outdated version. I know…it sounds complicated and like a lot of work. It is, sort of. But I wanted to do this for the class, so I’m satisfied with it.

Mr. FixIt was called in to substitute on the bowling team last night, so I was left home to enjoy the Big Red Chair and watch/listen to the fireplace video on YouTube. I’m making progress on the market bag I’m crocheting. I go to knitting group this morning. Unfortunately, my new 22-needle knitting machine is sitting inside the post office and it’s closed today for Martin Luther King Day. I’ll have to wait till tomorrow to get it. Bummer!

I hope you had a good weekend and that you are staying warm this week. It’s going to be a cold one so be careful if you must go out!

”From its chamber comes the whirlwind, and cold from the scattering winds. By the breath of God ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen fast.“

  1. Ginny it is the same here. I like the cold for sleeping Gailyn likes it warm plus he likes to watch TV. So I started sleeping in the extra room. It’s dark and cool. Lately I haven’t had the window open because of the – twenty something below temps. We have a Boston terrier and what I call a covid terrier ( we adopted during covid). One sleeps with him. Savanah snores louder than him so that works out well. The other Rex is quite and is with me. He even wakes me up if my sugar goes low. I don’t know how he knows but he does. We had been under snow storm warning then a blizzard warning. It’s been dangerously cold for days. I hope you don’t get this. Here in Iowa the weather changes quickly but I think winter is staying awhile. I can’t wait till spring so we can start camping again. We have been trying to pick great places to go camping. Planning is fun. You have an amazing week an stay warm. God bless 😊

  2. What a blessing you are both able/willing to put ‘space’ where space is needed in your relationship. Such a simple gesture that gives so much insight to the art of love.
