One More Try

When I woke up yesterday morning, the sun was shining brightly and every twig on every tree was frosted with snow. We didn’t get a lot…the sidewalks and roads were bare. It stayed chilly all day and when I sat down to write this, it was 22º. It didn’t get much over freezing during the day. I really enjoyed having coffee with you yesterday morning! I think we should do that more often, don’t you?

I made a nice breakfast…grits and eggs, my favorite! When we were finished and the dishes were done and put away, I sat at my little table in the family room and prepared to work on that cussed blanket. I’ve been trying for over a week and I know i told you yesterday that I was done, but….

I am not one to give up easily.

I knew if I put my mind to it, I could figure out this planet pattern. It’s simple really…you just have to knit 14 rows of each color. The trick is being extra careful to set your counter the same way every time you change color so you have the exact same number of rows in every square. I sat down yesterday after breakfast and set my mind to my work and kept distractions to a minimum and before I knew it, the first strip was finished perfectly. If I don’t overwhelm myself and do one strip a day, I could have the blanket knitted in about two weeks. Much faster than doing it by hand, but still time consuming. When it’s done, it will look like Buffalo Plaid and I’ll use it for a throw when camping.

I had a video chat with a dear friend of mine who was honored to sit with President Biden yesterday for a meeting. She said it was a surreal experience and a memory she will cherish forever. In Mr. Virgo’s line of work, he had the pleasure of meeting many presidents, dignitaries, royalty, and celebrities of every stripe and he was always humbled by it.

I’ve met or seen several celebrities in my time…Harry Belafonte, Gene Shalit, Marilyn McCoo, Danny DeVito, George Hamilton, Beverly D’Angelo, Kurt Russell, John Denver…just to name-drop a few. When you live near Aspen, your chances of running into celebrities creases exponentially. We were always careful to give them a wide berth. They weren’t zoo animals…they were people trying to live their lives as uninterrupted as possible. But I will say this…it was lovely to share space with them…even if for just a moment.

Mr. FixIt and I watched a couple of episodes of Bull then I had a video chat with my brother. He got a hair and beard trim yesterday afternoon and he looked really sharp. We are both thrilled we can see each other via the Echo 8. I wish I would have gotten him one a long time ago, but I was afraid he wouldn’t be able to use it and it would just frustrate him. They have made these devices more adaptable for people with disabilities and it’s made it much easier for him to use.

I fixed my famous lamb chops with sautéed mushrooms for supper last night along with seasoned air fryer potatoes and steamed broccoli. I’ve got this recipe down now and can whip together a restaurant quality meal in 30 minutes or so. You know what they say…the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

”There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.“

Hebrews 4:9-11 NIV
