Easter Flowers
This is going to be a rainy week. This is the time of year where you don’t know quite how to dress. It can be in the low 30’s in the morning and the mid 70’s by the afternoon. Then, as soon as the sun dips below the horizon, the chill takes over and you’d better have a jacket. I was up early to get ready for knitting group. There were only three of us yesterday. The other two gals were crocheting scrubbies…one teaching the other. I get it. When you’re learning new things, it’s easiest to talk it out to really get the hang of a new skill.
I have a hard time chewing bubblegum and walking. I was trying to crochet another pair of shark slippers so I was counting my stitches in my head and listening to them counting stitches and reading the pattern out loud. After three attempts, I decided to do some knitting instead. I have a better muscle memory for that. I did the Turkish cast-on to start a pair of socks and after a few rows, I couldn’t figure out why that sock looked so huge! Turns out, I was supposed to divide the stitches between the two needles and I didn’t. So, I had to rip that project out, too.
Pulled Pork
The only thing I had left in my bag of tricks was a hat I’ve been knitting for Big. I picked it up and started working on the decreases where I’d left off early last fall. I knitted four rows and knew right away I’d made a mistake three rows prior. Out came those stitches and I did manage to get the mistake fixed and re-kitted those rows and I was done. I needed to get to the post office before they went to lunch so I could ship the shark slippers for my friend in South Dakota.
I got home and policed the area around my Big Red Chair. Things were getting a little out of hand and I needed to tidy up. Once that was done, I put the pork roast in the Dutch oven and and put it in to bake for about 2.5-3 hours. While it baked, I went out to do a little mowing…my first time on the tractor this year. I hate the first cutting. You have to stop so often to pick up limbs and sticks so they won’t get caught in the belt of the mower deck. So, it’s drive. Stop, Turn off the engine. Pick up sticks and limbs. Toss them over the hill. Get back on the tractor. Start it up. Repeat. Over and over and over. Once I got the perimeter mowed, it went a lot easier and I didn’t have to stop nearly so often.
We both quit at 5:30 and went in for supper. There is nothing like a hot, pulled pork sandwich with French fries. We have enough left over to have at least four or five meals. We also like cold pork sandwiches and we like fried pork roast with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. It will be nice to not have to cook much the rest of the week.
Have you all noticed an uptick in the usual allergies this year? Mine have been going crazy even with extra antihistamines and steroid nasal spray. Global warming is changing the growing season and the allergens. I hope it backs off and doesn’t stay this bad all season.
I hope you all had a nice Easter! I had more sugar yesterday than I’ve had in months and I had a heck of a time sleeping Sunday night. My Bonus Daughter wanted us to take food home from Easter supper and I knew if I took sweets, I wouldn’t be able to stay out of them. The Former Mrs. FixIt gave me a little bucket filled with chocolate eggs and so far, I haven’t been tempted by them.
