This was the first wall I did. It’s kinda like putting together a puzzle. I added another support there in that space to the right.

Land’s sake, y’all…there’s a learning curve here but I’ve got the hang of it now. I had to make a run to Lowe’s today because the cashier didn’t hand me a bag of stuff that I needed. They had it waiting for me at the Pro Desk so while I was there, I added some screws and T-braces to make the beds really sturdy. So, I didn’t get started till till after noon. 

Mr. FixIt brought the chop saw out and set it up on the saw horses for me. He watched me cut the first board and made sure I could operate the saw. And wouldn’t you know, the second board I cut an inch short. A good reminder to “measure twice, cut once!” But the wood wasn’t wasted. I can use it someplace else in the project.

I had a little surprise when I took the nightstand off this side. Those are the wires for the solar power. I didn’t want to make the bed any higher so I just cut out a little place in the board and put the wires down through it.

I finished the two outside walls of the beds. They are securely mounted to the walls and the floor. Now I can start filling in the blanks and finish the frames. But first…I have to go BACK to Lowe’s! I think when Mr. FixIt and I sat down to design this and count up the wood I would need, I forgot to multiply x2. I only need about seven more furring strips and maybe a couple of 2×2’s. Then I can put this thing to bed…so to speak. (See what I did there! lol)

Mr. FixIt will mow tomorrow while I finish up the camper. Then we can load up Tuesday. We take off early Wednesday for the beach and I’m SO excited!!! I may not have all the trim and details done before we leave, but the beds will be usable and oh so comfy! I have it all designed in my head and it’s going to be light and fresh. 

This is the other side. It was a little trickier because of the water tank. I had a heck of a time getting in there and screwing down those pieces.

I love doing jobs like this. I always have. I remember when I was in grade school…maybe 5th or 6th grade…I asked my mom if I could have a lavender bedroom. I’ve always loved lavender…it’s so soft and soothing. She said she’d ask my dad. The next day, she took me to the hardware store to pick my color. Then I had to wait on my dad to paint it. I waited, and waited, and waited some more. Finally, I got tired of waiting. I didn’t have the faintest idea how to paint a room, so I opened the can and painted HELLO on my bedroom wall.

My dad was NOT happy. I didn’t know what I did meant he’d have to paint a couple of coats to cover. But oh….that room was so pretty, and I was HOOKED on doing all the things. It started a lifelong obsession with projects. I work a project to death….pushing, pushing, pushing. I used to say I do my best work when I’m on a deadline, but I’m not sure that’s as true now as it used to be. 

This is the only photo I could find of Mom’s house. I’m sure I have some more somewhere…this is the only one I could get to fast.

When Mom died, I redid her kitchen. I’m the worst at taking before photos, but the kitchen turned out darling. I learned a LOT from that project. I have used those skills over and over. This isn’t nearly as difficult a job as that was. Not by a long shot. Of course, it took me nine months to do Mom’s house. I totally ripped out the bedroom of our camper with only five days to finish! I’m determined!!!
