Pardon my healing thumb…I hurt it when I was building the twin beds in the camper. The weather was perfect yesterday and since the fish weren’t biting, I got a lot of good knitting time in.
It’s amazing how fast a vacation goes. You get there on the first day and think, “What am I going to do to fill up all this time?” Then you blink, and it’s time to head home. You can only hope you’ve taken advantage of where you are and done things that create memories and taken lots of photos so you can remember everything. I find that’s becoming more and more important as we age because vacations tend to blur together and some memories get lost altogether.
We had our favorite breakfast…grits and eggs…then quickly headed to the pier to fish. We didn’t take the truck out on the beach at all this trip. And we certainly didn’t lug all our fishing equipment over the dunes by hand. We’ve actually enjoyed being on the pier. You get a nice breeze and lots of sun. You have a great view of both the ocean and the sound. There are lots of boats and other fishermen to visit with. It wasn’t a “catching day”…just a “fishing day.” We got there at about 10:00am and quit at around 4:00pm. We still had the original bait we started out with on the hook when we pulled it out of the water. A fella not too far from us pulled in a 24” black drum that he caught using sand fleas. Just goes to show you…fishing is a crap shoot.
The sea mist kept rolling in all afternoon and made the bridge disappear!
We were pretty slathered up with sunscreen so even with all that time out there, we didn’t have a sunburn. But we were pretty wiped out by the time we called it a day. We came back to the camper and took showers. I fixed hamburger steaks and steamed broccoli with carrots for a nice healthy supper. By the time we were finished, it was time to go over to the sound for the sunset. We haven’t missed a single one since we got here and this one didn’t disappoint.
Fortunately, the winds have all but disappeared so even 72° was quite warm. Unfortunately, the wind helps to keep the mosquitoes off of you so they were thick as thieves in the still air. I didn’t last very long at the sound before I had to bid a hasty retreat and get in the truck. For some reason, mosquitoes eat me alive and they hardly touch Mr. FixIt. I told him I’m just so much sweeter than he is…they love me!
We’re going to fish for awhile this morning, then come back to the camper and start packing things up. We have to pack up the bed of the truck with all the camping gear before we can hook up the camper and go dump the tanks. Then we’ll come back to our campsite and back the camper in without unhooking it. We’ll sleep in it that way so we can get an early start tomorrow morning. We have to be at our next campground by 7:30 or they lock the gates and you don’t get in. (Unless you happen to find a nice lady to let you in behind her like we did heading down. Shhhhhh….don’t tell!)
I hope you’ve been having a good week. It’s been really hot back home so I’m sure the lawn is going to need mowing.

”God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”“
Genesis 1:28 NIV
Soooo true about getaways! Even though we’re retired, change of scenery and routine are so relaxing but too quick.
Glad you took the time💖
Me, too…life is too short! ☀️
