I posted a picture on here the other day of the first big snow after Mr. Virgo died. It made me think of my sweet little farmhouse up one the op of the hill. I had the best view in the neighborhood. When I first had it built, I furnished it to look like an English country cottage. Since it was just Daughter #2 and me living there, we were very comfortable with the shabby chic, girly look. But once Mr. Virgo came into the picture, that only lasted about six months before he asked if I had given any consideration to redecorating.
I took the hint and we set to turning the house into something more sophisticated. Something a man like Mr. Virgo would like. He had more expensive taste than I did and I had never lived in such a nicely appointed house before. Even when I lived in the big house with Hubby #2, our home was still pretty much “Early American Garage Sale.”
You know…life is what happens when you’re making other plans. I ended up getting rid of almost all of my beautiful furniture when I sold the house and moved to West Virginia. There are many pieces I wish I still had…like this console. It was painted brick red with delicate designs on it. I miss that incredibly comfortable couch. It was down filled and gorgeous. My elderly aunt gave me her second husband’s roll top desk. There was an alcove in the living room when I kept the desk so I could look at it. Eventually, we bought a long cabinet for the electronics and put the TV on the top. I had a darling round table in the breakfast nook. The bedroom furniture was more Mr. Virgo’s taste than my own. It was dark and heavy with carved pine cones. But still, it was beautiful.
When I moved into Mr. FixIt’s house, the furnishings were much more my taste. It’s more like what I had pre Mr. Virgo…comfortable, homey, and lived in. Really, the only new things that I brought in were my grandma’s jelly cupboard, a desk that I bought, the entertainment center that I use in the office to house my appliances, and the two Big Red Chairs we bought with one of the stimulus checks. I don’t need fancy things anymore. I just need comfy and serviceable.
And Mr. FixIt. HE is my home. By the way…he wants me to tell you all thank you for the many heartfelt birthday greetings. I have asked him not to comment on my blog himself since I keep his picture under wraps. I give so much of myself in my writing…he’s all MINE! He went down to the creek today to make sure the ditch was clear. We’re supposed to start getting a lot of rain this week.
I also want to thank you all for the kind words and prayers when I got hurt last week. They really helped and I’m feeling much more like myself. I’m not getting headaches now. You all are awesome!
