It may be difficult to read, but this is the sign over the entry to the school yard for Valley Hall School. It was a little one room school house that my mom and her siblings attended a mile or so from home. The building is standing, however it’s been converted to a weekend cabin of sorts. The swing is still at the back of the yard.
I have been very busy relaxing! I have enjoyed my aunt’s company and listening to stories of times past. I’ve been walking every day down the country roads of West Virginia. I’ve been cooking country meals of fried potatoes and ham. I’m enjoying getting together with friends. I went to the little white church on the hill yesterday that I have attended since before memory. It was Communion Sunday and we had 14 in attendance…a banner day! It rained all night and I didn’t sleep because I wanted to hear every drop on the tin roof. I’m sitting in the cemetery on top of the hill as that is the only place I can get cell service! The sun is setting through the leaves of gold, the breeze moving our flag so slightly. Those who rest here have no knowledge of government shutdowns, politics, or war. The days are all the same. I find that immensely comforting.
Tomorrow I head to Charleston to pick up my friend. Mr. B will be here till Monday and we are really looking forward to traipsing around the WV hills together, meeting each others’ families, seeing old friends, and revisiting a little of those glory days of our high school years. I feel so full of love, joy, and peace!
I hope you all have a fabulous week!
