The more you practice something, the better you get…no matter if you’re painting, driving, parenting, meditating. A friend of mine invited me to do the 21 day free meditation series on the Energy of Attraction with Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey. I signed up and have faithfully done each of the first five days. I don’t know what it is about meditation. You’re supposed to ‘un-concentrate’, says my friend. Ok. Don’t think, don’t think, don’t think….I’m thinking. I’m thinking about not thinking. I’m thinking about the fact that it’s cold. I’m thinking about coffee. Mmmmmmm, nice hot, steaming cuppa Joe. Joe. I wonder what happened to him? He was going with…..oh, what’s her name? Anyway, she was really something. She was from Cincinnati. I have a friend in Cincinnati. Oooooh, Cincinnati Five Way Chili!!! Dang, that would be good today. It’s so cold. I need coffee!

And on and on it goes. Deepak tells me if my mind wanders, just start repeating the Mantra again. Great. It’s in Sanskrit…not my language of origin. Let’s see…Shama Rambo Fufu? No, that’s not it. Rahma Llama Sutra? Ha! Rama Lama Ding Dong! No! Concentrate. Un-Concentrate.

I don’t know. I’ll keep trying but I’m not entirely optimistic about my success. I have a friend who regularly goes to silent retreats. They are held at a beautiful monastery in Snowmass, Colorado. I always thought I’d like to do that but paying someone so I can be quiet for a week seemed a bit excessive to me. I could take TOW-Wanda up in the hills and be quiet for a week for a whole lot less. Oh, who am I kidding? Me? Quiet for a week? Not likely! Have you MET me??? lol

I don’t mean to knock meditation. It’s been around a whole lot longer than I have. And I suppose when I sit and write, even when it’s lighthearted like today, it’s sort of like meditating. It centers me. It helps me connect to my core beliefs. It opens me to connect with the Divine. And…the more you use up, the more you have. I love that. <3
