Tilling a garden
“Tilling in his garden.”

The other day I told you Mr. FixIt put in a garden for “me”. I was so excited. I haven’t had a garden in ages and I was really looking forward to going out and getting my hands in the dirt. Then, before I knew it, Mr. FixIt had the plants and the seeds in the ground. *sigh*

I was really disappointed. Then I looked at it a different way. Why should I get to have all the fun things? Riding the big lawn mower is a whole lot more fun than pushing the smaller one…but, Mr. FixIt pushes it for me. Hooking up, towing, and unhooking my camper is a lot more fun for me than sitting and watching someone else do it. The same is true for Mr. FixIt.

He has always had a garden. It gives him great joy to do that. Who am I to take his joy away from him? He brings me joy every day in some way. Like, the roses and the sweet card he gave me for Mother’s Day. Like, standing in church holding my hand…the other hand raised. Like, a million little things. I can let him have his garden…and the resulting bragging rights. I don’t have to do everything. I don’t have to control everything. I can just…be. Sometimes, less is more. ❤️

  1. Bless his dear little heart! But if you yearn for soil contact, why not ask him to till another sunny area and start a Pollinator Garden? Big Box-sourced plants are full of bee-killing poisons these days, so maybe plant some untreated flowering herb and annual seeds, and ‘do good’ at the same time! Lots of companies sell native plant seed specific to a given locale, the best plants for local pollinators. Your “(state) Native Plant Society” will have lists of seed suppliers on its web page. Happy Planting! My favorite inspiration page is the FB group “Pollinator Friendly Yards”.
