“They will stumble repeatedly; they will fall over each other. They will say, ‘Get up, let us go back to our own people and our native lands, away from the sword of the oppressor.’” Jeremiah 46:16 NIV
When you find a park you love AND you’re great friends with the Camp Host AND there’s all kinds of fun things to do there…you have a winning combination. Beaver Creek State Park is near East Liverpool, Ohio so it’s a good three hour drive from the Ponderosa. The Girl Campers meet here in the spring and again in the fall for an event we call “What a Hoot” in honor of all the owls that live in the Park. Our fall gathering is usually a couple weeks later than this, but we decided to gather earlier this year to take advantage of the Civil War Reenactment Weekend.
There was never a Civil War Battle here in the immediate area, but since there is a mill in the park, and the Pioneer Village is a perfect setting for a skirmish, they hold this as an educational event every year. “Abraham Lincoln” walked around the park, regaling everyone with historical stories. Mr. FixIt and I had lunch with he and “Mrs. Lincoln”. It was interesting to hear him talk in the first person as the President and tell us where he was and what he was doing at certain times in his life. I didn’t realize Abraham Lincoln had been a merchant and built a huge barge by hand to deliver goods to New Orleans several times before he moved up into the Midwest to build his father a cabin.
If you have never been to a Civil War Reenactment…there’s a whole lot of waiting around while things get staged, then there’s a whole lot of loud, crazy, smoky chaos as “soldiers” go flying in the air and lay still on the ground for the rest of the battle. Personally, while I found the historical details fascinating, I did not like the loud shooting…especially the cannon fire. The fact that it was sixty degrees and raining didn’t help. But, I’m glad we went.
Last night’s dinner was a variety of soups which really hit the spot as the temperature continued to drop. This is so much more like October right now than September. As much as I don’t care for winter, I am enjoying this weather change. It’s supposed to rain steady till Tuesday, and there’s nothing like the sound of rain on a metal camper roof. I’ve got friends, food, and Mr. FixIt. That’s all I need! ❤️
My hometown!❤ We hope to relocate back there in the next couple of years.

My neighbor and his son (and daughter & son in law) all do this with the Pennsylvania Bucktails group. What a great experience as his children grew up!
