I’m not even going to bother telling you about the place I stayed at St. Augustine Beach. It was a tired, run-down beachfront hotel that was pretty heavily damaged on the oceanfront side during the last hurricane. It WAS fairly inexpensive for beachfront. And I COULD see the ocean from the balcony. It was quiet and clean. They did have to come put a new AC/Heater unit in because mine didn’t work. It had a mini fridge and microwave, which was nice. It was $77/night. Not bad, but I wouldn’t stay there again.

Savannah, however, is an entirely different story. Thirteen years ago, when my mother died, I brought my older brother to Florida for the vacation our mom had promised him. We drove through Savannah and I was charmed. I can’t remember where we stayed back then, but when we drove to the River Walk, we came through an enchanting neighborhood with square parks every other intersection, gorgeous trees with their crooked arms draped gracefully with Spanish Moss, and delightful Victorian homes. I swore if I ever came back, I would stay in the Historic District.

As I prepared to leave St. Augustine yesterday morning, I talked myself out of a B&B or one of the trendy historic hotels in the old district because I spent my bigger budget on beach accommodations. But I thought I’d just take a peek on the Hotel.com app to see if there was something affordable. Lo and behold, I found a room at $77 and snatched it up. When I received the confirmation, it was via text on the cell phone. And…it was a room in a Victorian house right in that beautiful neighborhood I was looking at! Not only that, my hosts said I had my pick of rooms and I had the whole house to myself!

Oh. Em. Geeeee! This place is amazing. It’s a four story home but the top floor is locked for storage. There are two bedrooms on each floor and a three bedroom apartment at the garden level. Tall ceilings, soft grey walls, crisp white trim, fireplaces everywhere, gorgeous wide plank hardwood floors. Breakfast was in the fridge when I got here. Off street parking was free. All for the unbelievably low price of $77 per night! Score!!! It’s called The DuLinn on York.

What a great way to wrap up my road trip, pretty much. I will probably have one more night in a hotel before I get to my cousin’s in Bristol, Tennessee on Friday. Unless I drive all the way in tomorrow. I’m by no means ready to go back to the snowy/rainy cold of late winter in West Virginia, but this trip broke the season up and the sunshine was just what the doctor ordered. And, spring comes early on the farm. I’m looking forward to the dogwood and redbud blooming late next month. Spring is my favorite season…it holds such promise. ❤️
