I love coffee. Like…LOVE coffee! I like to think I’m a coffee connoisseur, but I can’t name the region where a coffee was sourced just by tasting it or smelling it. I just know a good cup of coffee when I taste one. Ben & Sue are half-caff kids. No strong coffee for them. I learned to really appreciate coffee when Mr. Virgo was alive. If the spoon didn’t stand up in the cup, it wasn’t strong enough as far as he was concerned. And don’t DARE serve him a cup of coffee that you can read a newspaper through!
When Mr. Virgo and I were first together, I griped incessantly about his coffee…it was too strong, it was bitter, it was wretched! I bought a coffeemaker that actually had two sides to it. He would make his coffee in one side…I’d make mine in the other. We both turned our noses up when we saw the other’s brew. Then, that coffeemaker broke and he finally convinced me to buy a Bunn. They are fabulous! Your coffee is ready in literally 1-2 minutes. It was great.
After making a big show of pouring half a cup of coffee and filling the mug with milk before I popped it in the microwave, accompanied by a heavy sigh, I started actually appreciating the flavor of his coffee. It wasn’t until after Mr. Virgo died, that I started drinking my coffee the same strength as his. A “hanging on to memories” kinda thing, I think.
Ben & Sue have offered a place on the counter to put my own coffeemaker where I can brew my version of coffee, but I just haven’t taken the time to go out to the storage bins and search for it. Until I do, I am happy to have a cup or two of what is available. But at least a couple of times a week, I have to take advantage of the many coffee shops in the Metro Denver Area and get a “real” cuppa Joe.
Yesterday, Mr. FixIt and I had a list of things we wanted to accomplish. We went out to breakfast with Ben & Sue. We started out at Denny’s, but after 15 minutes and no one did so much as bring us silverware, we got up and left. We went to Perkin’s Pancake House. After breakfast, we headed out to run our errands. By the time we were finished, it was 3:00 and we decided to go to Caribou Coffee and get something cold and refreshing.
I am adamant about my caffeine intake. I cannot have regular coffee after about noon or else I’ll be up all night…ready to plow the south forty. I got about halfway through my iced coffee when I realized I forgot to order decaf! O. M. Gosh!!! As I’m writing this, it’s 8:30 Wednesday evening and I could start painting a barn if I had one! Zooooom! Zooooom!
It’s been hot here, but nothing like the heat y’all are getting back east! Ninety-eight here is certainly not the same as ninety-eight back home. I hope you all are staying safe and well hydrated so you stay healthy!

I do pour-over coffee–using a kettle with a slim curved spout. I make it sta-rong using fresh locally roasted beans ground at home. googled a youtube so I got it right. Man that’s good coffee! I brew one large cup every morning. I understand your love of strong coffee!

Ha! Funny. ? I remember that about *** [edit: Mr. Virgo]. That coffee could stand up & salute him. Sir, yes, sir! I drink mine like that now too at one place who does it correctly. I think it’s just restaurant peeps in general after enough years and enough late hours. It finally takes that much to keep us going. ? Good memories with this post! I just wish I could update *** [edit: Mr. Virgo] on my successful career. I feel like he’d be proud. ❤
Oh, Terry…I’m sure he knows! (I hope you don’t mind…I edited out his name and replaced it with Mr. Virgo. I give so much of myself in my posts…his name is mine. ? ) He was certainly a special man, wasn’t he??? ❤️
Hi Ginny,
I am so happy I found your SOTF site.Years ago I remember reading about ladies traveling in their little trailers cross- country. It must’ve been you and your posse?
So happy to have found “you” again. I dream about traveling as SOTF. I live in Virginia and care for my 91 year old sweet Mom with dementia. So I plan to reach out one day and come and find you and your “posse.” I love your Holy Voice. I am so lucky to find you again✝️
God Bless and safe adventures.
