My daughter and her wife drove across Colorado yesterday to see her dad for Father’s Day. It always warms my heart when she does something with her dad. They have a special bond. Daughter #2 has changed a lot during the pandemic. We video chat, text, and call more often than we ever have. We both need that mother-daughter connection. We were talking the other day and I wanted to ask her to stop by to visit Mr. Virgo’s grave on her way through…but I forgot.
Mr. FixIt and I were running errands yesterday. We were standing in Walmart when a video chat request came through from my daughter.
“Mom? I wasn’t sure whether I should do this or not, but….here.” She turned the camera around and she was standing in front of Mr. Virgo’s grave! I caught my breath and put my hand on my heart.
“Oh, honey! Thank you SO much for going to see him! I’ve been thinking about him so much lately.” I was grinning ear to ear.
She had already cleaned up the grave and weeded the entire area around it. She made sure the rocks were neat and tidy in a circle around him. And she stayed for a while after we got off the phone so she could talk to him. They held a special bond, too. She is such a good person.
I had my appointment with the specialist at WVU yesterday. We need more testing to suss out what exactly is going on with my thyroid. It was my first experience with a video doctor’s visit and, I must say, I think I prefer it over being there in person. I had my notes and questions written down. The doctor was very patient and listened to me and we worked out a plan together.
We had to take this lawn tractor BACK to the shop again. Mr. FixIt set the emergency brake on it when we got it on the trailer. Then, when I drove it off, the brake handle fell off. I could feel what happened back in there, but I could not put the pin back in the hole to hold the handle in place. As it turns out, the service man had to remove the gas tank to get to the spot he needed. And now it’s fixed…again.
By the time we got home, we were famished. I made grilled cheese sandwiches with pepperoni on the sourdough bread I made over the weekend. I’m telling you…I hit the mother lode with this recipe! And now, here we are…another weekend. We don’t have to be anywhere till Tuesday and I am thrilled. Lots of pool time and baking in my future over the next few days. Still camping out in the field.
I am so incredibly blessed to have this life. When I saw Mr. Virgo’s grave through my daughter’s phone camera, I thought I could almost hear him saying…
“You’re doing a great job, babydoll!”
❤️
“Do everything in love.”
1 Corinthians 16:14 NIV
So sweet of your daughter–she knows you well! And, now that’s an old school (as the kids would say) term of endearment! My dad used to call me Babe–as in Susie-babe. my mom called me babe, dolly dimples or doll. Dish, on the recipe? Happy Father’s Day to Mr Fixit!
For the bread, I used this recipe: https://www.marthastewart.com/1130184/tartine-country-bread For the sandwiches: I buttered on side of four slices of bread. Place two slices, buttered side down in an iron skillet. Top with shredded cheddar and 4-5 thick slices of pepperoni. Top with the second two slices, buttered side up. When the bottom side is crispy and golden, carefully turn over and grill on the other side ?
