West Virginia gets SO much rain! It just pours for days at a time here and while I love the sunshine, the lush green foliage and the rush of the creek outside my bedroom window is delightful.
Yesterday morning, I drove to town to meet my high school girlfriends for coffee. On the way in there was a sign warning “One Lane Road Ahead”. In West Virginia, that means one of three things…a downed tree, a rockslide, or half the road has washed away and you’re left to cross what’s left, holding your breath that the rest doesn’t give way with the weight of your car. Fun times! Fortunately, yesterday was just another rockslide. This one was right where the other one was that I received the warning about. But…this one was HUGE. I’m not sure you can tell, but that rock is about the size of two pickup trucks! Wowza! Ever since “the warning”, I’ve been hyper-vigilant about rocks in the road.
There were fifteen of us at coffee on this spring day. It’s always such a good time visiting with the girls. Some had never gathered like this till I came along and organized it. They always worked and it just took someone making the suggestion to get together. Now we all feel like it’s cheaper than therapy and a whole lot more fun!!!
I drove up to Marietta afterwards and browsed and had a late lunch at Boathouse BBQ…a great place right on the river. There were a lot of trees, branches, and other stuff washing downstream with the high water. Someone’s dock even floated by. You never know what you’ll see this time of year out there.
On the way home, I caught glimpse of the first redbud trees beginning to send their whisper of purply-pink in the woods. The true, true harbinger of spring. Next will be dogwood and star magnolia. The forsythia and flowering quince are still lush. Yellow daffodils mark the sites of old homesteads, long after the houses have returned to the earth.
I priced lawnmowers yesterday. Shhhh, listen. That’s the sound of the grass growing! ❤️
“Ask rain from the Lord in the season of the spring rain, from the Lord who makes the storm clouds, and he will give them showers of rain, to everyone the vegetation in the field.”
Zechariah 10:1 ESV
Spring is my favorite season! The beautiful flowers and blooming trees always make me happy ?

usually the local repair shops have
used mowers for sale, if you’re on a budget.
