Aunt Lucy turned 100 years old yesterday. I took my Aunt Peeps (on the left) to the birthday party and caught this darling moment when Aunt Lucy finally realized who she was talking to. As with many elderly people, she is nearly blind and very hard of hearing. She is not my aunt by blood. But, we have a really unusual connection.
Back in the ’30s, Uncle Ken and Aunt Lucy sold their farm to my grandparents and that’s where my heart has lived all my life. It’s where my aunt lives now. I’ve known these people my whole life. When I started dating my first husband, he used to talk about his Uncle Ken and Aunt Lucy. Turns out, they were one and the same. Uncle Ken was my former mother-in-law’s brother. Are you following me so far? lol
There were so many blessings yesterday. My aunt and I seem to have a little truce going here which is nice. The better part of the county came out to honor this lovely woman. I spent Friday afternoon with my first husband, which was fun. I saw family members I hadn’t seen in 40 years. I spent some time in a beautiful Victorian mansion in the historic district. It was a day full of feels.
The day started with coffee with the Divas of ’71 and ended with live music on the banks of the Ohio River. I live a charmed life. Two years ago you could not have made me believe life could ever be this sweet after losing Mr. Virgo. My heart is soaring!
Happy Mother’s Day.
