A Day in the Studio

It’s been a long time since I could sit in my studio and just create whatever I wanted. I ended up making some Christmas gifts… attaching prayers and love to every stitch. Mr. FixIt was in town so the house was quiet. I was cozy in my little corner of the basement. The stove was glowing, soft music in the background, a hot mug of tea at the ready. My workspace is beginning to look like a tornado blew through it. Such is the life of the creative with ADHD.

I’ve been making Christmas stockings, hats, scarves, and slippers in the studio. Then I place the pieces in a basket and spend the hours after supper, sitting in the big red chair carefully assembling them while Mr. FixIt watches his shows. Sometimes I listen in, but if it’s a western or a shoot ‘em up show, I put on my headphones and listen to thunder storms in the background.

One of our readers posted that she’s been making divinity candy. My Grandmother Roush used to make divinity every Christmas. I remember Mom making it once, but it didn’t turn out like Grandmother’s so she never tried again. I’ve never made it myself, but I’m lining up my recipes for my Holiday Baking Extravaganza next week and I might give it a try. I just found this YouTube video from Come Sit at my Table. He makes it look pretty easy. You can see his video here. https://youtu.be/XzCDVlCkwcI?si=0x9z37V4K19sORda     I’m going to make some English Toffee, Fudge, Sugared nuts, and those little Rolo Pretzels that I always make. Oh, and I’m thinking of trying my hand at Souther Pecan Pralines. Do any of you have a foolproof cookie/candy recipe you’d like to share? Have any of you made pecan pralines?

We won’t be having our family Christmas gathering till the 30th. Everyone has places to go

I do have good news about my eyes. The doctor put punctal  plugs in on Monday. The drops she has be on has reduced the inflammation and my vision is much clearer. And, I can work without my eyes feeling like there’s sand in them. That is such a relief. I kept thinking I had cataracts or something. As long as I follow the regimen she has me on, I think I’ll do fine.

I’m thinking of offering some of my handmade items in my Etsy shop. Everyone loves having something handmade, and it would mean a lot to me to make things people love. I’ll be posting some items soon.

  1. My Grandmother always said…”don’t make divinity on a day with high humidity…it will never turn out!”
According to my Mom, she was spot on!!!
