A Message from God

I firmly believe God speaks to us every day in every way. He can manipulate earthly things. Sometimes the message is huge. And sometimes it’s just a way of reminding us He’s here and he’s watching out over us.

I sat down yesterday to do my Bible study. It had been a while since I’d done this, but I just opened the Bible and randomly chose a page and put my finger on a verse. I landed on 1 Corinthians 15…”Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then and you still stand firm in it.” That was God reminding me I am His beloved.

Wednesday night, Mr. FixIt and I went to a Dark Sky Park to watch the moonrise and saw the most amazing sunset. As I was snapping pictures, I scanned through them to see if I was catching any good ones. Something in one of the pictures caught my eye and I looked up quickly to see if it was really there. A cross!

It WAS still there…and stayed there for quite some time. I know the “timbers” of the cross consisted of jet trails. But they were placed there at just that particular time in that particular way to cement my bible study earlier. God winks are the coolest things, aren’t they?

We had to go to town yet again yesterday. A prescription needed refilled. And I needed to buy a big pork roast for Sunday’s family picnic as well as a few other things. I told you in yesterday’s post that we are dickering with the insurance company over the settlement they are offering. It’s way too low for the condition of the LIncoln and Mr. FixIt is teaching me…you don’t HAVE to settle. You can stand up for what’s right and negotiate with the insurance companies.

Mr. FixIt and I came to our relationship with the same insurance company…just different agents. The Lincoln happens to be on my policy, but in the chaotic aftermath of ramming the garage door with his beloved Lincoln, he ended up calling his agent. The company has been giving us some trouble, refusing to increase the value of the car. We went up the food chain (just call us Karen) and asked to speak to a manager. She called while I was mowing and left a voice mail. By the time I was off the mower, it was too late to call back.

I talked about this with God in my morning prayers. When I was getting ready to call the manager back, it popped in my mind that I should contact MY insurance agent to see if he could help us. Two hours later, he called us back and said they had re-evaluated the car and declared it’s value at twice what they originally told me. This brings it up in an area where it may not be totaled after all. They’ll call us today and arrange for us to take the Lincoln to an approved garage for further evaluation. This was great news! If it can be fixed, we can get her back on the road. She’s a good car and has plenty of life left in her. If she can’t be fixed, the value is up where we wanted it. Win-Win!

This is all to illustrate a point. God looks out for us in every matter…large and small. He relishes our interactions with him. He covets our prayers. But, He’s not a genie in a bottle…you can’t rub three times and expect to get your wishes…at least not immediately. Whatever His will is with this and all situations in our lives…we are grateful for His every presence in our lives. As for showing up in a West Virginia sunset? Well, that’s just icing on the cake…a rare and precious gift!
