When I woke up early yesterday morning, I looked out the window and it was raining cats and dogs. Of course, I could HEAR it, but it was grey and dismal out there, so I turned over and slept for three more hours! It rained hard off and on most of the day so Gail stayed cozied up in her camper reading and I stayed in mine, deep cleaning and organizing all the cabinets.
That stinkin’ mouse shredded half my toilet paper roll! And you know, once you know you have a mouse and you catch it, you HAVE to clean everything in sight! I used half a container of Clorox wipes and this place is neat as a pin. In my purging of the cabinets, I came across the five dish towels I bought on the Outer Banks last year. They were made from an old vintage tablecloth. I decided to use one for a dishcloth and the other four to protect the fabric on the recliners.
The two white quilts I bought to go on the twin beds in the camper came yesterday along with the king-size top sheet I bought for backing fabric for the curtains. I’ll have to finish that project after we get back from the next camping trip. We leave tomorrow for four days over toward the Eastern Panhandle to visit family.
When I was trying to decide on bedspreads for the camper beds, I saw something really pretty. It was made to look vintage….white on the top with a wide yellow border. The vintage tablecloths have some yellow in them and I’d love to play on that. But those bedspreads were over $100 each. Instead, I ordered two of these yellow reproduction vintage tablecloths. I’m going to sew them on one side of the white bedspread so they’ll be reversible. All for less than ONE of the fancier bedspreads would have cost.
So, the mouse is gone and I haven’t heard another. However…now there are ANTS! Ugh. I’m setting out ant traps. But the worst thing is…that leak we had down at the beach has reappeared. We had really really hard rains yesterday and I think we’re getting water in the camper from a leak somewhere. With campers, it’s not a matter of IF you’ll get a leak. It’s a matter of WHEN you’ll get a leak. We just need to get that taken care of quickly because water kills a camper. I have mitigated it somewhat with an absorbable gel bag that soaks up spills, but that’s just a temporary fix.
I heard from a reader yesterday that I should not use DCon because the poisoned rodents can in turn poison predatory birds like owls. I only used it the one night, then caught the offending little booger in another kind of trap by DCon. So, I just wanted you all to know I’ll not be poisoning mice anymore. I’ll use this.
Gail and I did get a little knitting time in last evening. Then we ran over to her house to pick up the box that arrived for me at her house. Once we got back, we were both tired and called it a night. I got to sit in the cleaned and organized camper and sip a hot beverage before bed. I’ll head home this afternoon, strip the beds and wash the linens. Then I can get the clean sheets back on the beds by nightfall. I won’t even unhook the camper when I get home since we’re leaving in the morning. Mr. FixIt is playing in a golf tournament with Mr. FixIt Jr., their youngest, and her boyfriend today so I’m sure I’ll be home before he is.
I had a really relaxing time this trip…just what I needed.
Who’s up for another road trip?!?!
