The sun was setting when we came out of the grocery store.
Mr. FixIt had a followup visit with our PCP to see how he’s doing after his bout with Covid. We were glad to hear he’s doing great and we can hug again! That was a long stretch and we didn’t like it. Everyone needs human touch. I remember when I lost Mr. Virgo, I had my doctor write out a prescription for massages and I went every week. I needed that to help me heal.
We accomplished about half of the things on the list with three stops and a dinner out at our favorite diner. Social distancing and masks are the rule now. My poor sweetheart doesn’t want to get that again! I got my RSV shot yesterday at Sam’s. So I’m covered for the four big diseases you want to avoid when you’re of a certain age. Flu, pneumonia, covid, and RSV. So far, I haven’t even had a real cold since the Covid lockdown and I really like not being sick.
When we finally got home, it was dark. I helped Mr. FixIt bring in our purchases of the day and put them away. Then I packed up some things and headed out to the farm. It’s supposed to 80° today and I need to mow one last time out here then I can put mowing behind me till next year. I got my bags unpacked, stowed my food for the next three days, then I had to sweep up all the dead Asian Lady Beetles off the floors. I had an exterminator come out here in 2016 to spray for fleas and whatever they used seems to also kill these retched things. It IS a little disconcerting to know whatever they used is still this potent seven years later!
When there is a light on, the beetles fly around up at the ceiling and they make a tic, tic, tic sound. This takes me back to the night I arrived here for my mother’s funeral. My Aunt Rosie flew in with me and we rented a car in Charleston to drive out here. There was only one bed to sleep in so she and I shared a double bed. We were so afraid to go to sleep for fear our months would gape open and we’d swallow one of these miserable vermin. We lay there for hours listening to the the sound of them buzzing around. It still sends shivers up my spine. I have learned if you keep a light on in the farthest room away from you and keep your room dark as a tomb, they stay away from you, but I brought earplugs… just in case!
I’ll stay here till Friday morning. Mr. FixIt has an appointment in town on Friday so I need to get the truck back to him. Once I mow, I can take advantage of this lightning fast internet and get some things done much faster than I can at home.

The same sweet Santa on the ornament has popped onto the perfect mug for you winter hot beverage. There’s a surprise on the other side… a darling little elf came along with Santa to help out!
If it makes you feel a little better, we find dead lady beetles here at home and have never sprayed anything. I think they just reach the end of their lifecycle, and only a few winter over. I had them in the corners of my garage one year and had a nightmare that they were in my bedroom (above the garage) and wintering in the corners of my waterbed frame. Ugh! Also super impressed that you managed to avoid Covid! My sweetie brought it home and I was around him for a couple of days before he had symptoms (at which point we went into mask/isolation mode) but I started two days later 🙁 Stay well! <3
Yes, I’m pretty amazed myself. Nice to know I’m not necessarily living with neurotoxins in the house! I’ve seen them a lot worse in the house, so I’ll take what I can get! Hope you didn’t get too sick! I have been sneezing my head off, but I’ve also been mulching leaves like crazy, so I’m sure it’s allergies. 🍁
Dont forget your shingles vaccine. That’s something we can all do without….and Medicare pays for it 100%.
Oh, yes!!! I haven’t had the Shingrix yet, I don’t think. I’ll have to check. I know I’ve had the first one. Thanks for the reminder. You’re right… NO one wants that!
