After the Storm

I thought for sure I’d hit the ground running yesterday and get so much done but that didn’t materialize. Bestie Gail didn’t get to the campground till noonish because she was babysitting her sweet three-year-old granddaughter. I gave myself a slow start then I could hear the neighbor camper gathering things to move from the site I had reserved for the rest of my stay. As soon as he left, I had Grace all ready to hop into the new site next door.

I got everything settled and organized for the rest of my stay, pulled my chair out of the truck, and sat under the awning drinking my RYZE and reading one of my summer books. It was delightfully cool and quiet. I was wondering where Gail was and when I went in the camper for a refill. I glanced out the window and she was there! She thought I was napping and didn’t want to disturb me.

I took my hot beverage over along with the new Tunisian Crochet Hook to try to figure out how to do it. It wasn’t long till I remembered crochet really isn’t my jam. About the time I gave up on it, the rain started and we came over to my camper because we have the comfy recliners. Gail and I looked over the vintage tablecloths and came up with what we want to do for the curtains. We decided I needed to use white cloth for a liner to give them a more finished look. She suggested buying a white king-size flat sheet instead of yardage. You get a lot more fabric for the money that way. I was going to take the wooden valance boxes off because I hate the brown, but I’ve come up with a better idea and I think it’s going to be darling!

When I bought the tablecloths, I also picked up some embroidered valances for $1 each. I vacillated over full curtains or just the valance on the windows in the slide out. They are behind the double recliner and I really love the light coming in. We don’t bound around in our nothing anyway so privacy isn’t really an issue. We either draw the big curtain across the bedroom area or change in the bathroom. So I decided to just put the valance up and keep it light and airy. As you can see, I used old towels to create antimacassars for the back of the chairs. I’m going to change that and use some of the tablecloth fabric to make that area cheery, as well.

The fabrics will be mix and match with a jumble of color but a theme for cohesiveness. I’m really excited about it. I want it to look homey and comfortable without being too she-she for Mr. FixIt. I don’t mind the wallpaper in here at all. It’s kind of a basket weave…like linen. There is entirely WAY too much brown for my taste, but I’m not clear yet on whether I want to paint the cabinets. That may come down the road…not sure. I think if I change a little at a time, it might be easier on Mr. FixIt than a huge abrupt change. Most people get their campers to their liking in time to buy a new one. I’m honestly hoping this will be the LAST one! (Didn’t I say that about the A-Frame? lol)

Gail made taco salad for supper last night. The rain came in again so we went over to my camper to sit in the comfy chairs and knit. We had tea and solved all the world’s problems and by 8:30, our eyes were drooping and we were done for the day. The frogs were calling and I could hear the cows from the dairy farm down the road. They were up near the fence by the playground…bellowing. I listened for the owls, but I have a feeling the storm kept them quiet.

My solar lantern hanging from the awning struts to keep me from banging my head on them when I walk by in the dark!

Today we head over to our friend Jan’s farm for a visit. I love her to pieces and I love her place…it’s so peaceful and she has this really great old barn. Jan is a spitfire…she may be small in stature, but she is larger than life. A widow, a mother, a banjo picker, an activist, a naturalist, and a retired pastor with more energy in her little pinky than I will ever have! Can’t wait to give her a squeeze!
