I don’t talk politics here. It’s too personal and too important to trivialize it with merely an opinion or marginalize it with angry rhetoric. There are enough venues to discuss the particulars. I won’t do it here. I also won’t have the comments run off the rails either. This is my safety zone…this little imaginary ranch where the wild marshmallow grows. And, I’m certainly not endorsing a candidate here. But I’ve got to tell you…I cannot wait till this is over. I mean, like….if this election were a bear trap and I were caught in its massive steel jaws, I would gladly chew off my own arm rather than spend one more moment with it.

I saw a meme the other day that said this election is like our parents are fighting an ugly custody battle over us and all we kinda want to do is go live with grandma. The hateful, vulgar debacle is enough to depress the most stoic of visages. I want it to be over…and this spoken from a woman who doesn’t watch TV. I can’t imagine watching this play out on a screen larger than my cellphone…and that’s filtered through social media and select news outlets…with the sound off.

I don’t know about you, but I just want America to be nice again. Please? I want a world where we don’t have to censor the television to make it safe for the kids to walk in the room. I’d like to see mental health statistics based on election years. I want us to just get along. I know this is a naive oversimplification, but I want my grandma. I want her kind face smiling at me. I want to see the twinkle in her eyes when she sees me run in the door. I want a piece of her jelly bread. I want her to cup my face in her hands and blow zerberts on my cheeks. I want her to gather me in her lap and rock me safely in her arms singing “Bye yo bye yo, baby bye.” to the tune of “Rock of Ages”. Instead, I’ll snuggle into the big rocker by the front window…with a cup of tea. And pray it will be over soon.
