I hate giving up on the twinkle lights. But something had to give. The ornaments and tree were getting dusty. It had been ages since I really took notice of the tree. I need to wash the big picture window the tree sits in. The carpet needs cleaned in the family room. And I was two days past my cutoff of Valentine’s Day. It was time.
After sleeping in the camper Wednesday night, I came in bright and early yesterday morning because the rain was starting around 8:00. I didn’t want to tote all my stuff in and risk getting my iPad wet. I put the kettle on for tea and tiptoed down the hall to see if Mr. FixIt was awake yet. It didn’t appear he was, so I fixed my tea, toasted a bagel, and went in to the Big Red Chair to start working on my project.
When Mr. FixIt hadn’t made his entrance by 10:00, I went looking for him. Try as I might, I still walk down that hall with trepidation when I think he should be up already. He understands that and tries not to worry me, but if he’s asleep, he doesn’t have a lot of control over that. When I peeked in the door this time, there he was with a great big smile on his face and I was ready for my morning hug!
We were soon up and at ‘em because there was a lot to do. The rain started so Mr. FixIt got back to work with the carpet shampooer. He needs to get more moulding and that has to wait till the rain has passed. I worked on the project then he brought the Christmas totes up. He snoozed a little while I took down the ornaments and carefully wrapped them. We weren’t quite finished when it was time to start supper.
The Pasta Primavera was such a hit last time, we’ve decided we’ll be putting that on the menu rotation. It is a little time consuming so I’m hoping after awhile it will go quicker. It is so tasty though and we have enough left over to tomorrow’s supper. I love having enough cooked that I don’t have to make a meal every day.
After supper, I sat down with Mr. FixIt to watch the news. The tree stood dark in the window and I wonder to myself if the children down the road will notice it’s gone when their parents drive them past. They’re such sweet little things and they love Christmas so much! I think I’ll bake some cookies soon and take some over.
So much to do in the coming weeks. I can’t really afford to dink around a whole lot or I’ll be WAY behind. My goal is to have this project ready by the middle of March, then I can move on to other things that need doing. And, before you know it…it’ll be time to start mowing again! Isn’t that crazy???
It is awfully nice to hear the rain on the roof…even if it’s asphalt shingles and not an old-fashioned tin roof like the farm. It would be a little louder in the camper, but it’s a rubber roof. Still not the same. I’m bound to get back out to the farm again in the next couple of weeks. Here it is, Friday again. Do you all have something planned for your weekend? I hope you are all safe from the impending storms! I know this scripture is a little early, but it paints such a lovely picture, doesn’t it?

“Fear not, Earth! Be glad and celebrate! God has done great things. Fear not, wild animals! The fields and meadows are greening up. The trees are bearing fruit again: a bumper crop of fig trees and vines! Children of Zion, celebrate! Be glad in your God. He’s giving you a teacher to train you how to live right— Teaching, like rain out of heaven, showers of words to refresh and nourish your soul, just as he used to do. And plenty of food for your body—silos full of grain, casks of wine and barrels of olive oil. * * *”
