It’s been forever since I’ve done a cross stitch. When I took our daughter and her mom with me to tour Kreinik Manufacturing Company in our hometown, I bought a cross stitch kit. It has the pattern and the silk threads, but it doesn’t have the 32ct linen to go with it. Also, it’s been forever since I got rid of my cross stitching supplies so I don’t have a frame. I really like the Q-Snaps and the kind that you roll. We don’t have a needlework supply store anywhere near here and I’m not finding exactly what I want online. And now, Kreinik has been sold to a company in California so the business will move there soon. I’m so happy for my friend, Doug Kreinik. This was his family’s business…started by his parents…after 51 years of business. We wish Doug and Myla the very best in their retirement!
Are any of you current or past cross stitchers? Do you have supplies for sale that you no longer use and you wouldn’t mind parting with? I’m looking for a 12” by 12” piece of 32ct linen in a greyish greenish brownish color. And a cross stitch frame of some sort…not an embroidery hoop. That damages the fibers in the linen and you can never get the marks out. Let me know if you have anything.
I’m also looking for a good online needlework shop. I had such a lovely little shop in the early 2000’s. It was in the oldest wood frame building in Glenwood Springs a couple streets off the main drag and catty corner from the Amtrak Station. I often got customers who called ahead for an order, would jump off the train and run over to pick up the bag I prepared form them and run back to the train. When you are traveling cross-country on a train, you’d better have something to keep your busy.
My shop was around at the very beginning of internet commerce and I did have an online presence. But it was a little TOO early. If I’d been able to stick it out another year, I might have been able to really do something with it. It wasn’t meant to be. God whispered that it was time to walk away. Then…just a few months later, my mom died rather suddenly and I was off to West Virginia to take care of her estate. If I’d still had my shop, it would have been really difficult to be there for my brother and do the work I needed to do.
I spent the day downloading pictures and graphics from my computer to my external hard drive. One of our readers had the right idea yesterday. She said the problem could be the cloud and she was exactly right. My laptop is set up to upload all the new files that come onboard and send them to the cloud. Then, anytime I need to use one, or even open the folder, the file has to be downloaded. Our internet is SO slow it takes hours to do what should take minutes. I didn’t get out to the farm yet. I will before too long.
It rained off and on yesterday. The Ohio River should have crested by the time you read this. Hopefully without further loss of life. I am praying you all are safe…from the weather, and from the extremely rare earthquake that struck in the northeast. These are the times that try men’s souls and it’s just one thing after another. The Bible talks about this. I am not afraid as this is not my home. We know who wins in the end.
