This is only about a third of what I worked up yesterday.
I had five bags of apples and another dozen assorted loose apples in a basket and it was time to get started. I got a bit of a late start yesterday but I plugged right along for several hours…washing, peeling, coring, quartering, and slicing apples galore! I’d probably say, all told, I had almost a bushel of apples and I almost got them finished before I threw in the towel. I’ll get back to them this morning. They are resting in an acidulated bath overnight to keep them from turning brown.
I bought one of those apple peeler-corer-slicer gadgets a couple of weeks ago. I had one a long time ago and it worked pretty well. This one? Not so much. It’s made by Norpro and I have to say, I was pretty disappointed. The “blade” that peels the apple is curved and leaves a stripe of solid apple peel in between rows of white peeled apple. It takes more time and effort to clean that up than it does to peel the apple with a vegetable peeler and trim it up with a paring knife. A real pain in the keister.
About halfway finished!
I took a break in the late afternoon and went out to finish mowing. I noticed a lot of new blossoms on the pumpkin vines, but it’s way too late in the season to get new pumpkins. From what I can see I only have one medium pumpkins and one mini, and this is without really investigating amongst the vines and leaves. I need to plant them in a different place next year.
I need to get this all finished before Wednesday because that’s when I need to start packing for our trip. Not so much with the clothes. We have a washer and dryer in our condo at the beach. No, what I want to pack is what I will need for the kitchen down there. It has the bare minimum items and I need to gather up what I will need to prepare the dishes I have planned. We don’t want to eat in restaurants or go into grocery stores out on the Outer Banks, so we’ll be taking everything with us. Good thing we have a full sized pickup truck!
I need to pack my electronics because I have an article to write for the winter edition of the new Girl Camper Magazine. Oh, if you haven’t seen it yet, you need to check it out at www.girlcamper.com and see what a beautiful job Janine has done with the magazine. Very classy and professional yet cozy and homey. I also need to pack my knitting. I can hardly wait!
