Day 233: Once in a Blue Moon

A blue moon is the second full moon in one month.

Happy November! Election season is almost over and I’m lining up my new activities for the coming months. First, we had a “Blue Moon” last night. It is the first time since 1944 that the second full moon in one month could be seen in all four time zones in the continental United States. It was also Halloween and the the end of Daylight Saving Time for 2020. Yes, kids…two more months and this year is behind us! I will not be sorry to see this one go, I’m telling you what.

Sycamore Leaves are HUGE!

The day started out with dense fog here at the Ponderosa. We discussed our plans for the day over a pancake and sausage breakfast. We needed to run into town to Walmart and while Mr. FixIt took care of his errand, I perused the appliance aisle. I’ve been seriously considering getting an air fryer and after asking for advice on my Facebook page, I was ready. I decided on the Ninja Foodie because it doubles as a pressure cooker, air fryer, slow cooker, toaster oven, and dehydrator.

Our meager pumpkin haul for 2020.

When we got home, we took out some of the fresh fish we brought back from the beach to defrost. While it was thawing, I helped my sweetheart with a few things around the yard. We needed to get Pumpkin’s building ready for winter. I got her bed ready with the platform heater and a fresh blanket. Then we washed her heated water dish so it won’t freeze when it gets cold. She is comfy and cozy out there and protected from critters. We decided to put her in the building earlier than usual, given it was Halloween and she’s a black kitty. We live in the country and we just didn’t want to take any chances with our sweet girl. As usual, we didn’t have any Trick or Treaters here.

The Ninja Foodie

I unboxed my new kitchen toy and read all the directions. We wanted hush puppies and there was no way to make those in the air fryer. I did fry those in oil and drained them well. The French fries came out of the Ninja hot, brown and crispy. I placed them and the hush puppies on a baking sheet and put them in a 225 degree oven to stay hot. I normally like a wet breading on my fish but Mr. FixIt bought a dry cornmeal breading. I coated the fish and even though it browned in the air fryer, it wasn’t necessarily appealing and it was dried out around the edges. I made some homemade tartar sauce and it still tasted fine. It wasn’t bad for a first try.

Fish and Chips…Ninja style!

We watched college football all afternoon and evening and around 8:00 we went out to see the full moon. It had just peeked over the hills across the two-lane and it was indeed beautiful. We have the pool finished now so it’s put to bed for another season. And now…it’s yet another Sunday. I hope you have a beautiful day!
