Day 7: Creative Social Distancing

The flowering quince and forsythia are blooming outside our bedroom window. Mother Nature once again demonstrates life comes back.

Ok, we have been practicing social distancing for a week now. Well, actually…it’s been a month since Mr. FixIt’s stroke and we haven’t spent more than a couple of hours apart in that entire time. That’s ok…I am happy to be here for my sweetheart and take care of him to the best of my ability. I love him to the moon and back. AND…we get very close to standing on each other’s last nerve sometimes. Perfectly normal under normal circumstances. These are anything BUT normal circumstances!

We still have lots of doctor appointments and are considering our options as far as postponing. Some we may, some we really should not. However, we may have our dilemma decided for us if the offices call and cancel themselves. In the meantime, I’m going to get outside this week and clean out the camper so that I will have my little sanctuary to escape to. Also, if my Colorado girls have to bug out and come someplace safe where they can live off the land and be self sufficient, we may need the camper as alternative housing during this social isolation. We’re just keeping our options open.

This has truly been the weirdest week of my life…of all of our lives, I imagine. It’s like waking up in a George Orwell novel. I’ve been collecting little nuggets of wisdom.

Use plastic grocery sacks or doggy poop bags as “gloves” for opening door handles, handling money, and pumping gas leaving gloves for healthcare workers.

Try to avoid buying up the WIC items when shopping so that moms on WIC don’t have to go home empty handed. They cannot use their WIC coupons for anything but WIC items. Maybe they’ll change that temporarily, I don’t know.

Sing the Doxology as you wash your hands…it’s 20 seconds and you’ve praised God at the same time.

Have “the talk” with your loved ones about what you would want done should the unthinkable happen. It is not morbid…it is an act of love. Tell three people, and tell them who the other two are and that they should communicate in the event you become seriously ill.

Spend this time organizing your papers. Write things down…passwords, account numbers, important information. Write letters to your loved ones and stick them in a desk drawer.

I’ll write more as I think of them or run across hints that are helpful. In the meantime, Mother Nature is showing us that life does return. It is a promise.

Today’s Question:

Are you eating comfort food or trying to maintain a healthy diet?

❤️

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.””

John 16:33 ESV

  1. Good ideas all around. I’m good with all the restrictions. I don’t mind staying in my house. I just wish the rain would stop! I think we are on day 12 or 13. It hasn’t rained all day every day, but most mornings and evenings there is rain. I’m thinking much more of this quarantine without sunshine is going to push me over the edge! Today I am going to see if our grocery store has any vegetables and some bread. Maybe that little outing will help. Stay safe! Social distance. Don’t touch your face. And WASH YOUR HANDS.
