Yesterday was by far my easiest day yet. I woke up around 7:30 and was catching up with my correspondence when the camper suddenly shook from a gust of wind. A storm front was coming through and I needed to get moving…fast. These a-frame campers are awesome, but there are a few drawbacks with them. You should not put them up or take them down when it’s windy. The two half’s of the roof are only connected with something akin to bungee cords and a very strong wind could send them flying in opposite directions.
I threw my stuff together quickly and got it from the camper to the truck, then carefully lowered the top and was ready to go in record time. I love when I don’t have to unhook my camper. It makes for a quick exit in the morning. The rain quit as soon as I sat in the truck. I got on the road by 9:00 and headed west. Well…north, then west. I drove up and picked up I-80. Even though it is a major trucking route, it’s not nearly as crazy as I-70 is.
I don’t find Iowa boring at all. I love all the beautiful farms, the windmills, and the gently rolling hills. I only stopped once or twice at the cleanest and prettiest rest areas I’ve ever seen. I took a fifteen minute break and chatted with you all on a FB Live…which is always fun! One of these times through, I need to set up a meet in greet at places along the way! I’d love to meet you all sometime! I caught up with a lot of people on the phone which was lovely.
This is one of those trips where I’m flying by the seat of my pants. I made no reservations, and so far, I’ve had great luck finding campsites. It’s the time of year. The kids are still in school and the weather has been crappy so I have better luck getting spots. When I got into the campground last night and registered, I was given several site choices. I drove around to see what was available and selected the one I wanted. I went to the office and informed them of my choice and by the time I got back, there was a young couple setting up a tent and they already had their music blasting. I backed into my site and rolled down the window to listen. Nope.
I pulled back out of the spot and headed to the office to request a different site. I am not picky, but I am too old to pay to listed to young kids party. They should have a great time..fine. I just don’t need to camp next to them if I can help it. I chose a much smaller area and got set up in record time. I ate supper from the cooler and stretched out to write. There is a camper nearby playing music. That’s ok, I understand that. Some people want the music as an accompaniment to the camping experience. Me? I want to hear birds, not the BeeGees. (Ok, they’re old, too! lol) So, I just turned on my sound machine and wrote my post as usual.
Oh…I have something really cool to tell you. You’ve heard me say many times how God provides my every need? Well, I was lamenting to Mr. FixIt last night how expensive the gas is in the Midwest. He called me later to tell me I got a letter in the mail from the State of Colorado Department of the Treasury with a check for $284! He took a picture and sent it to me. It turns out, there is an unclaimed property division and they track down people who have money coming to them. This must have been something to do with Mr. Virgo. He had an account with the bank the letter mentioned. Just a little gift from God to offset the higher gas prices. Our God is such a good provider!
So, today I drive across Nebraska. If it goes like yesterday, it’ll be a piece of cake. Hopefully, there will be dry roads and sane drivers. And, finally…I should be in Colorado some time tomorrow!

Matthew 11:28 ESV
I enjoy reading your blog….We had an Aliner for several years. We ordered the wind kit from someone on the Aliners Owner Club site. He made and sold them. It locks the roof in place once you are set up.
Interesting. I’ll have to check that out! ?
