“Here’s the link to Homemade Chocolate Cake…Grandma Lois’ recipe.”
The other night…I had a dream. I don’t dream all that often. Perhaps more precisely…I don’t remember my dreams. This one was really vivid and clear. I was attending an event honoring Queen Elizabeth. It was jam packed with people…dressed to the nines. All pomp and circumstance, as an event honoring Royalty would be.
I was seated at a long table. It was formally set with fine china, silver, crystal and lovely flower centerpieces. I hadn’t noticed anyone I really recognized till I saw the woman seated directly across from me. It was Oprah! Oh, I was so excited to get to meet her…I’ve always wanted to. At that moment, the service staff brought everyone a lovely slice of triple layer chocolate cake!
Everyone beamed, picked up their forks, and took that first delicious bite…swooning at the decadent dessert. I looked over at Oprah, and with a tinge of sadness in my voice, I said… “I picked a heck of a day to quit sweets, didn’t I?”
Oprah looked at me incredulously. Our eyes locked.
“Eat the cake.”
I looked down at this amazing, rich, slice of heaven and wondered if I should. I was feeling pretty porky lately. I’d made a promise to myself. I had not willpower anyway…why not just keep going?
I looked back up and Oprah was still watching me. Her face softened. Her voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper.
“Just eat the cake.”
So I did. And it was divine! The world didn’t end and neither did I.
There’s a difference between being healthy and being deprived. Life is short and unpredictable. We don’t know when the end will come…so eat the cake. “Eating cake” can be interpreted in much more than consuming a pastry. Do the things you’ve wanted to do. Dance. Sing. Draw. Read. Nap. Write. Swim. Bike. Cook. Meditate. Knit. Paint. Sew. Walk. Garden. Work. Hike. Listen. Speak. Stand. Sit. Run. And, pray.
Pray always and without ceasing.
Live every day of your life.
Live EVERY day of your life.
LIVE every day of your life!
Just LIVE.
