Father’s Day was Mr. FixIt’s Day

We knew yesterday was going to be a scorcher. Since we both worked hard on Saturday, and we had the family cookout in the evening, we both figured we deserved a day of rest. And rest, we did. French Toast for breakfast followed by a lot of time in the Big Red Chairs was the order of the day. The kids all called their dad for Father’s Day, which is always welcome. We nibbled through the day and had leftovers from the party for supper, followed by the last of the brownies and homemade ice cream. I gave Mr. FixIt a big container of Atomic Fireballs and an Ancestry DNA kit for Father’s Day. They don’t make Atomic Fireballs anymore and I had to scour the world to get him some!

We spent time in the pool when the “feels like” temperature outside hit 111°! It was 84 degrees in the house. We don’t run the whole house air conditioner because it makes no sense to cool rooms we aren’t in. We have a series of fans running that keep things at some semblance of comfort. We will resort to the AC this week, though. It’s going to be brutal for the next couple of weeks.

While Mr. FixIt snoozed in his recliner, I spent the afternoon leaning out the inbox of him email account. I have always had a very bad habit of not deleting emails when I’ve read them. Between that and spam, I’ve accumulated nearly 65,000 unread emails! So, whenever I want to just veg out and not think about anything…which is rare…I sit down with my laptop and use the “sweep” function in Outlook and get rid of a lot of baggage. I always feel a little better after I clean out 5-6K emails.

We leave on our trip a week from Thursday and there’s still a lot to get done before we go. My list is long, but I’m checking off things every day. I had great visions of getting the curtains made before we leave, but now I’m not so sure that will make the cut. I have to set priorities at this point. On the other hand, sitting at my sewing table in the cool basement may not be such a bad thing. We’ll see. When it gets hot like this, I kinda lose my mojo. lol

Oh, yesterday, I posted a picture of our sweet little grand-puppy, Cooper. I meant to explain who this good boy was, and it escaped me. Cooper came to our cookout Saturday night and it was the first time I’ve seen him. He’s a five month old English Golden Retriever. Once he got over all the excitement of the new people and smells, he was just happy as a clam up on the deck with us. He eyed the pool, but he didn’t jump in!

I hope you all are staying cool and safe. Stay hydrated, my friends…and take frequent breaks if you need to be out in the heat. Nothing needs to be done that badly that you make yourselves sick over it.

I didn’t get a Prayer Circle posted last night, but if you could please keep my lifelong friend Sharon and her family in your prayers. She has been critically ill the past week so this coming week is going to be filled with challenges. Thank you for always being here and offering prayers when I come to you with requests. You have no idea what you all mean to me.
