Not my kitchen…but I‘d love to have one just like it!
It’s been so dry here the last two or three weeks. I mean, it sprinkled a couple of times, but not enough to make the sidewalk wet. We kept getting storm warnings all day and it finally hit at 8:00…just as soon as Mr. FixIt left to run across town for some things at Piggly Wiggly. It’s been so hot this week and Sunday ushers in a week in the 90’s.
I have an appointment first thing this morning to get the wheel bearings repacked on the camper. It’s customary to get this done every 10,000 miles and we’re quickly pushing that. I went out last night before the rain hit and hooked up so all I need to do this morning is drive out I need to get back quickly because we’re having the WV family over this evening for a cookout. I saved the smoked pork for the occasion. I’m learning in this “seasoned age” to delegate. I don’t have to cook ALL the things to be the perfect hostess. I mixed up several bases for ice cream and put it in the freezer. Pineapple Cream, Banana, Berry Cheesecake, and Chocolate. A taste for everyone.
One of the Facebook pages I follow focuses on Vintage Kitchens. Someone shared a photo with the message “If you’re feeling stressed right now, then here’s a Grandma kitchen to help you relax.” I love looking at these vintage kitchens and indeed, they do make me feel relaxed. We never had a pretty kitchen like these two photos at home or out at Grandma’s house. But I have been in homes that looked like this. Hubby #2 and I lived in three different houses in Denver that had vintage kitchens and I loved them.
I think these kitchens suit me, being an earth mother country girl. If I had unlimited funds, I would build a house that is identical to Grandma’s. I’d build it on the lot we own on the outskirts of town. I’d paint it red with white trim and have a galvanized tin roof that plays the music from a gentle rain. I’d have wide plank flooring, white cabinets with windows in the doors. I’d have a deep, wide farm sink with a double window over it that looks out on the garden. I’d have a great reproduction vintage gas cookstove and a fridge to match.
It’s never too late to have dreams and it’s never too late to make them a reality. We are of an age where we live on a fixed income. So a windfall would need to manifest itself in order to make these dreams come true. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, right? I keep picturing my book, finished and doing well. This thing is NOT going to finish itself. I need to either make the commitment to publish it…or let it go. I’m not willing to just let it go, so I guess I’m going to have to double down and get it done. That may mean a sabbatical from writing this blog for a little bit while I focus on the book. I’m thinking I might do that this winter…after the mowing season is past us.
