Food Glorious Food

Yesterday was a culinary delight and yet it was simple from start to finish. Every morning, I ask Mr. FixIt what he’d like for breakfast. Yesterday he elected to have French Toast. I make a pretty mean version with heavy cream, eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and my homemade Vanilla Extract. It is light and fluffy and not overly sweet. My vanilla gives it a wonderful depth of flavor. Balance that with sausage patties and sugar free syrup and you have a breakfast as good as any quality restaurant could serve.

We took our tea to the family room and while I finished the third Christmas stocking, Mr. FixIt watched his shows. At some point we went out to start up the generator. We pulled and pulled and finally he went to the garage and came back with some starter fluid that you spray into the carburetor. Afterwards, it only took one quick pull and it started right up. We let the gennie run for about 10-15 minutes then shut it down and stored it on the covered front porch area. Now it’ll be ready for the big storm front coming in at the end of the week.

We won’t be getting a lot of snow, I don’t think. But it’s going to be bitter, bitter cold and very windy. It’s the wind that gives us trouble here in the Mountain State. We have lots and lots of trees and the wind knocks limbs and trees down across wires and takes them out. We can easily go days without power here, so we are ahead of the game…just in case.

Along about 4:00 in the afternoon, I decided to start making a quiche. And I’ve got to tell you…I think it was the best I’ve ever eaten. It’s certainly the best I’ve ever made…and I’ve made some really good quiche in my time. Again, I do not cook with recipes except to find out recommended cooking times and temperature. I’ll do my best to tell you how I made it.

It was a really good day and I was thrilled to stay home to enjoy it! I still have lots of things to do, but we won’t be celebrating the FixIt Family Holiday Extravaganza till the 30th.

There’s plenty of time!

“For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams, springs, and deep water sources, flowing in both valleys and hills; a land of wheat, barley, vines, figs, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey; a land where you will eat food without shortage, where you will lack nothing; a land whose rocks are iron and from whose hills you will mine copper. When you eat and are full, you will bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.”
